No Corrections after CBSE Marks Uploaded on Website, Delhi High Court

No Corrections after CBSE Marks Uploaded on Website: The Delhi High Court denied a student's request to have her internal assessment results for Class 10 on the CBSE portal corrected. The court reasoned that there would be "utter chaos" if schools were permitted to submit marks incorrectly at first and then petition the board to make corrections.

Judge C. Hari Shankar stated that while the court understood the student's situation, it is "powerless" to alter the internal evaluation marks in any way because, once uploaded, they must be regarded as final for the purpose of preparing the results. "Once a school uploads the internal assessment marks of a student on the website of the CBSE, it cannot seek any correction in that regard, even if there was an error while uploading the marks," the court stated in a recent ruling.

"This is one of those unfortunate cases in which the court regrets that it has to rule from the head and not from the heart," it stated. The petitioner, a student in an Oman school affiliated with the CBSE, filed a motion with the court after learning that, despite receiving a perfect score of 20 out of 20, she had only been awarded 18 marks in her final Class 10 results, which were released by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

The petitioner said that there was no question about her receiving 20 marks and that she shouldn't have to suffer as a result of the school's error. The court ruled that the ban on further revisions serves the public interest and that schools should exercise caution when posting their student grades. "I firmly believe that the prohibition serves the public interest.

CBSE Class 10 Exam Pattern 2023-24

Schools are associated with the CBSE both domestically and internationally. If schools were allowed to make mistakes when entering students' grades on the CBSE website and then ask the CBSE to rectify the grades they gave out, there would be complete mayhem, the judge declared.

If this practice were permitted, the CBSE would not be able to simply grant such petitions and would instead need to carry out independent investigations in each instance to determine the candidate's true grade. In such scenario, it's questionable if the CBSE would ever be able to release the final scores of every student, he continued. The court noted that there was no "sustainable grievance" in the petition because the circulars issued by the CBSE were not being contested in this case.

The court noted that there was no "sustainable grievance" in the petition because the CBSE's circulars could not be contested in this case.
