SSC CGL Typing Test Guidelines

• An SSC specialized software will be utilized to administer the Data Entry Speed Test (DEST).
• Candidates can utilize this additional time to rectify any errors since they won't be required to re-enter the text after completing the paragraph.
• The Commission will determine the qualifying standards for text input based on candidates' overall performance in the skill test and the available positions. However, these standards will not fall below the minimums established by the Commission.

• Practice Typing: Regular practice is key to improving typing speed and accuracy. Use online typing tutorials and practice passages to enhance your typing skills.
• Focus on Accuracy: While speed is important, accuracy is equally crucial. Aim for a balance between speed and accuracy during your practice sessions.
• Familiarize with Keyboard Layout: Ensure that you are familiar with the layout of the keyboard, including the placement of keys and special characters.

SSC CGL Typing Test Strategies

• Warm-up Exercises: Before starting the test, warm up your fingers with some simple typing exercises to improve blood circulation and finger dexterity.
• Maintain Proper Posture: Sit upright with your feet flat on the floor and wrists resting lightly on the keyboard. This posture helps reduce strain and improves typing efficiency.
• Use All Fingers: Utilize all your fingers while typing instead of relying solely on a few. This technique, known as touch typing, enhances speed and accuracy.
• Avoid Backtracking: Try to avoid backtracking or correcting mistakes while typing. Instead, focus on typing continuously and correcting errors during the revision phase.

SSC CGL Typing Test for Handicapped and Person With Disabilities

Orthopedically Handicapped (OH) candidates:

• OH candidates may be exempt from the Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) if they submit a certificate in the required format (Annexure-XV of the notification) from the appropriate medical authority, such as the Civil Surgeon of a Government Health Care Institution. This certificate should confirm their physical incapacity to take the typing test on an ongoing basis.
• When shortlisting candidates for positions requiring either Computer Proficiency or where DEST is prescribed (such as Tax Assistant in CBIC, Tax Assistant in CBDT, and UDC/SSA in the Central Bureau of Narcotics, Ministry of Finance), higher qualifying standards will be applied compared to other posts.

Persons with Disabilities (PWD):

• Candidates classified as Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) who qualify for scribes as per the terms of the Notice of Examination will receive an additional 5 (five) minutes of compensatory time in DEST.
• Only Visually Handicapped (VH) candidates who opt to use scribes during the written exam will be provided with passage readers during DEST.

Important Instructions for SSC CGL Typing Test

• Arrive at least 30 minutes before the test commencement and report to the Supervisor.
• Bring originals and attested copies of required certificates/documents, including proof of date of birth, educational certificates, SC/ST/ExS/OBC certificates, and a "No Objection" certificate if applicable.
• If requested by the regional office, provide a current passport-size photo adhering to the admission certificate.
