Full form of CAT

A full form of CAT is the Common Admission Test. CAT is a computer-based exam to enter into a graduate management program. There are three stages of exams.

• VARC (Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension)
• DILR (Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning) and
• QA (Quantitative Ability).

The comprehensive three-hour online test is divided into one hour for each section. IIMs (Indian Management Institutes) started this exam and select candidates for their business administration courses such as PGDM or MBA through the exam. Exams are performed annually by one of the IIMs, based on the exchange policy.

History of CAT

1. It was announced in August 2011 that IIT (Indian Institutes of Technology) and IISc (Indian Institute of Science) would now use CAT scores instead of JMET (Joint Management Entrance Test) to select candidates for the 2012-15 batch for their management plans.
2. Until 2009 the CAT was a one-day paper-based test for all students.
3. The pattern of the paper, number of problems, and length of the paper have seen changes over the years.
4. On May 1, 2009, it was announced that the CAT would be a computer-based exam.
5. From 2009 to 2013, the responsibility for conducting the exam was given to the American firm Prometric.
6. Technological setbacks have damaged the first computer-controlled by CAT. The concern was so severe that the Indian government was advised to procure the convenor file. The problem is identified as Conficker & W32 Nimda, the two viruses that have reduced device display in the examination.

Eligibility criteria for CAT

The candidate should check out the eligibility provided below:

• Candidate must hold a bachelor's degree of not less than 50% or equivalent CGPA, as well as 45% SC (Organized Caste), ST (Organized Nation) and PWD (People with Disabilities) category or DA category (Differently Able).
• Qualifications must be awarded by any institution constituted by the act of the central or state legislature of India or other educational institutions established in terms of an Act of Parliament. Recognized as a university under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 / equivalent qualification recognized by the HRD Ministry, Government of India.
• Competitors who reach their final year of bachelor's degree or similar exam qualification and people who have achieved pre-condition for degree and are awaiting results can also apply.

Examination duration and pattern

• Each year, the pattern of the CAT exam is different.
• A mock examination is provided in the CAT 2018.
• CAT exam is a computer-based exam consisting of three parts, Verbal Understanding and Reading, Data Interpretation & Logical reasoning, and QA.
• The QA and VARC sections comprise 34 questions each, while the section on DI & LR has 32 problems.
• Since about CAT 2015, the question distribution has remained the same. Before, the questions were presented differently.
