For Science Disciplines:

  • Physics (PH 41): M.Sc./Integrated M.Sc. in Physics or B.E./B.Tech./Integrated M.Tech. in Engineering Physics. Minimum 60% aggregate marks in qualifying degree. GATE-2024, GATE-2025, or GATE-2026 score in Physics or Engineering Science is needed.

  • Chemistry (CY 42): M.Sc./Integrated M.Sc. in Chemistry. Minimum 60% aggregate marks in M.Sc. and B.Sc. GATE-2024, GATE-2025, or GATE-2026 score in Chemistry is required.

  • Biosciences (BS 43): M.Sc./Integrated M.Sc. in various bioscience fields, M.Tech. in Food Science and Technology, or B.E./B.Tech. in Food Technology. Minimum 60% aggregate marks. GATE-2024, GATE-2025, or GATE-2026 score in Life Sciences or Biotechnology is essential.

  • Geology (GE 45): M.Sc./Integrated M.Sc., or Equivalent M.Tech. in Geology and Applied Geology. GATE-2024, GATE-2025, or GATE-2026 score in Geology and Geophysics is needed.

  • Geophysics (GP 46): M.Sc./Integrated M.Sc. in Geophysics. GATE-2024, GATE-2025, or GATE-2026 score in Geology and Geophysics is required.

BARC Scientist Selection Process 2026

  • Online Screening Examination: A CBT-based exam is conducted across various cities. It is scheduled for March 14 and 15, 2026.

Interviews are held in Mumbai or Hyderabad, depending on the discipline. Outstation candidates receive travel reimbursement. Final selection is subject to medical fitness.

BARC Scientist Salary and Job Profile 2026

Successful candidates appointed as Scientific Officers will receive competitive salaries and comprehensive benefits. The job profile involves critical roles in atomic energy research and development.

During training, OCES TSOs and DGFS Fellows receive a stipend of ₹74,000 per month. OCES trainees get a ₹30,000 book allowance. DGFS fellows receive tuition fee reimbursement, a ₹60,000 annual contingency grant for two years, and additional M.Tech. project funding up to ₹4,00,000.

Upon appointment, Scientific Officers are placed in Group-A, Level 10 of the 7th Pay Matrix. Basic pay is ₹56,100/-. Total monthly emoluments can reach approximately ₹1,35,000 in Mumbai. They also receive allowances like leave travel concession, children's education allowance, and a Contributory Health Service Scheme (CHSS).

Job roles include engineering design, operation of nuclear reactors, and research in basic sciences. Postings are across various DAE units in India. A service bond of at least three years is mandatory after training.
