GATE 2027 allows you to appear in either one or up to two test papers in the same examination cycle. If you are opting for two papers, you must select a primary paper and choose the secondary paper only from the officially permitted combinations. The two-paper option provides flexibility for those who are interested in related disciplines while applying through a single GATE application.
GATE 2027 also introduces Robotics and Automation (RA) as a new paper, which is available in approved two-paper combinations with EE, ME, CS, and DA.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras will conduct GATE 2027 for 30 test papers. You can appear in either one or up to two test papers. Those choosing two papers must select a primary paper and an eligible secondary paper from the official two-paper combination list.
You should submit only one application for GATE 2027. If you wish to appear for a second paper, it must be added to the original application during registration. In case multiple applications are submitted, only one application will be accepted, and the remaining applications will be rejected without any refund of the paid fee.

The two-paper option allows candidates to appear for an additional test paper from the approved combinations. Some of the advantages include:
Interdisciplinary Learning: You can choose an eligible second paper related to your primary discipline and explore another field of study.
Greater Academic Flexibility: The option to appear for two papers provides flexibility while applying for postgraduate programmes in different disciplines.
Expanded Career Opportunities: Candidates interested in more than one discipline can demonstrate their knowledge by appearing in two permitted papers.
Single Application Process: You can apply for both papers through one GATE application by selecting the second paper during registration.
You can appear in either one or up to two test papers in GATE 2027.
If opting for two papers, you must first select a primary test paper.
The secondary test paper must be chosen only from the officially approved two-paper combinations.
Paper combinations other than those listed are not permitted during the Regular and Extended registration windows.
Additional two-paper combinations may be announced later on the official GATE 2027 website, subject to infrastructure availability and scheduling feasibility.
The examination centre for the secondary paper may be different from that of the primary paper. However, both examination centres will be within the same city.
Under unforeseen circumstances, some approved paper combinations may be withdrawn at a later stage. In such cases, the fee paid for the second paper will be refunded.
You should submit only one GATE application to appear for two papers. Multiple applications will not be accepted, and the remaining applications will be rejected without any refund.
All GATE 2027 test papers will be conducted in English.
Every GATE 2027 paper carries 100 marks, including 15 marks for General Aptitude (GA) and 85 marks for the respective test paper syllabus.
