PGCIL History

National Power Transmission Corporation Ltd, like Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, was established on October 23, 1989. The corporation was established with the goal of developing, constructing, owning, operating, and maintaining the country's high-voltage transmission lines. On October 23, 1992, the company was renamed Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. Initially, the corporation managed transmission assets owned by central producing firms such as NTPC, NHPC Ltd, and North-Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. As a result of legislation passed by Parliament on April 1, 1992, the transmission assets of National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC), National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd (NHPC), and North-Eastern Electric Power Corporation were transferred to the corporation in January 1993. It was previously known as the 'National Power Transmission Corporation Limited' and was entrusted with developing, executing, owning, operating, and maintaining the country's high-voltage transmission networks. On November 8, 1990, the National Power Transmission Corporation got the Certificate for the Commencement of Business. The name was changed to Power Grid Corporation of India Limited on October 23, 1992.
