The first step is to identify your core strengths and then actively develop new skills around them.

  • Discovering Strengths: Pursue technical roles if strong technically. Explore software development if strong in computational/coding skills. Consider marketing or product management for communication strengths.

  • Developing Relevant Skills: For AI/computing strengths, focus on learning coding languages to create software/apps. Leverage hackathon experience to demonstrate skills. The goal is to develop domain-specific skills around one's core strengths, making oneself useful and employable.

  • Proactive Skill Application: Technically proficient individuals should proactively approach companies with projects and demonstrated expertise, rather than solely relying on formal vacancies.

  • Example: A student who didn't clear GATE secured M.Tech admission and PhD pursuit in Germany by showcasing personal 3D printing projects. This demonstrates the power of technical skills and project experience over conventional exam success.

  • Other Valuable Skills: Communication skills, problem-solving skills, project experience (e.g., JRF/SRF roles), and digital/AI skills are crucial.
