Originally established on August 7, 1986, as Regional Engineering College, Hamirpur, the institute started its operations at Government Polytechnic College, Hamirpur, due to the lack of a dedicated campus initially. It later shifted to its present location in 1987 after the construction of several buildings. Conveniently located approximately 4 kilometers from the main bus terminus in Hamirpur city, the Kangra airport, located 86.9 kilometers away, serves as the nearest airport.
