Uttarakhand APO Selection Process 2026: Stages-wise Details

The Uttarakhand APO Selection Process 2026 will be confirmed by the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) through the official recruitment notification. Since the UKPSC APO 2026 notification has not been released yet, the exact selection stages, exam pattern and marking scheme are not confirmed.

Based on the previous recruitment pattern, the selection process consisted of a Preliminary Examination, Main Written Examination and Personality Test/Interview. Candidates preparing for the upcoming recruitment can use this previous pattern as a reference until UKPSC releases the official notification.

Uttarakhand APO Selection Process 2026

The Uttarakhand APO Selection Process 2026 will be confirmed through the official UKPSC notification. Based on the previous recruitment pattern, the selection process consisted of the following stages: 

1. Preliminary/Screening Examination

2. Main Written Examination

3. Personality Test/Interview

4. Final Merit List

The previous notification states that candidates qualifying in the prescribed minimum marks in the Main Examination are called for the Personality Test/Interview on the basis of merit.

Stage 1: Uttarakhand APO Preliminary Examination

The Preliminary Examination is an objective-type screening stage. The previous APO notification prescribed two papers, namely General Studies and Law. Each paper carried 100 marks and had a duration of 1 hour 30 minutes.

The General Studies paper covers topics such as General Science, current events, Indian history, the national movement, Indian polity, geography and economy. It also gives significant importance to Uttarakhand-specific topics, including the state's art and culture, revenue police system, forests, crops, tribes, mountains and rivers.

The Law paper in the previous pattern contained questions from the Indian Penal Code, Indian Evidence Act, Code of Criminal Procedure and Uttarakhand Police Act, 2007. The distribution was 35 questions from IPC, 25 from the Evidence Act, 25 from CrPC and 15 from the Uttarakhand Police Act.

The notification also specifies negative marking for objective papers, with one-fourth of the marks prescribed for a question deducted for an incorrect answer. No penalty is applied when a question is left unanswered.

Stage 2: Uttarakhand APO Main Written Examination

Candidates who qualify through the applicable screening stage move towards the Uttarakhand APO Main Examination. The previous pattern included four written papers:

The previous notification prescribed a total of 400 marks for the Main Written Examination. Candidates had to obtain the minimum qualifying marks prescribed by the Commission to be considered for the next stage.

The syllabus covers General Studies, General Hindi and core law subjects. The law preparation includes criminal law, criminal procedure, evidence and provisions related to the Uttarakhand Police Act.

Stage 3: Uttarakhand APO Personality Test/Interview

Candidates shortlisted after the Main Examination are called for the Personality Test/Interview. In the previous selection pattern, the interview carried 50 marks, with no minimum qualifying marks prescribed for the interview. The total score of the Main Examination and Personality Test was therefore 450 marks.

The final selection is prepared on the basis of performance in the applicable written examination and interview, subject to fulfilment of eligibility and other prescribed conditions.

Uttarakhand APO Final Merit List

The Uttarakhand APO Final Merit List will be released by the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) after completing the selection process. 

 The merit list will include the names and roll numbers of candidates selected for the Assistant Prosecution Officer (APO) posts based on their overall performance. Candidates can download the final merit list from the official UKPSC website and check their selection status. 

How to Prepare for Uttarakhand APO 2026?

Candidates should begin preparation early by covering the core Law subjects, General Studies, Uttarakhand-specific topics and practising both objective and descriptive questions for different selection stages.

• Prioritise Law Subjects: Focus on criminal law, criminal procedure, Evidence Act and the Uttarakhand Police Act. Revise important provisions regularly and practise application-based questions.

• Strengthen General Studies: Cover current affairs, Indian polity, history, geography, economy and Uttarakhand-specific topics such as culture, administration, geography and natural resources.

• Practise for Prelims: Solve objective questions and mock tests regularly. Since the previous Preliminary Examination had negative marking, focus on accuracy, question selection and time management.

• Prepare for Mains: Develop descriptive answer-writing skills through regular practice. Focus on clear presentation, legal reasoning, relevant provisions and completing answers within the prescribed time.
