CLAT 2026 Exam Instructions: The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is an offline (pen-and-paper) exam conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities. The exam is scheduled for December 7, 2025, from 2 PM to 4 PM. All candidates must follow the CLAT 2026 Exam Instructions carefully for a smooth exam experience. Not following them can lead to a candidate's disqualification.

CLAT Exam Instructions - Bell timings

The CLAT exam runs for two hours. The exam will be conducted from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The bell timings help the candidate to keep track of time. The long bell at 1:30 PM means the candidate can enter the classroom. A long bell at 2:00 PM signals that the test has started. The candidate can now open the sealed question paper. A short bell at 2:15 PM is very important. No candidate can enter the centre after this bell, as provided in the CLAT 2026 exam instructions. The final long bell at 4:00 PM marks the end of the exam.

CLAT 2026 Exam Day: Items to Carry

The candidate must carry specific items to the exam hall. These items are required for an identity check. 

  • The candidate must bring the CLAT 2026 Exam Instructions sheet.

  •  They must carry their printed CLAT admit card. An original government ID Proof is also needed. 

  • A black or blue ballpoint pen is mandatory for writing. 

  • A transparent water bottle and an analogue watch are also allowed.

List of acceptable ID Proofs

The candidate must show one valid photo ID proof. This is for identity verification. Acceptable ID proofs, as mentioned in the CLAT 2026 exam instructions, include:

  • Aadhaar Card

  • Passport

  • PAN Card

  • Voter ID Card

  • Driving License

  • Photo ID issued by a school or college

  • Ration Card or PDS photo card

CLAT Exam Rules 2026 - Allowed and Prohibited Items

The CLAT exam has strict rules on items. Certain things are not allowed inside the exam centre. 

  • Prohibited items include electronic gadgets. 

  • Digital watches, mobile phones, and calculators are banned. 

  • Study material, bags, and purses are not allowed. 

  • Heavy jewellery and metal accessories are also prohibited for the candidate.

CLAT 2026 Exam Day Guidelines for PWDs and Specially Abled Persons

Special rules exist for PwD and specially abled candidates. All the instructions for the PWDs and specially abled persons have been provided in the CLAT 2026 exam instructions. 

  • Compensatory Time: Eligible candidates get a total of 2 hours and 40 minutes to complete the exam. This means 40 minutes of extra time is given.

  • Documents: The candidate must carry their original Disability Certificate to the test centre.

  • Scribe/Reader: Candidates who have trouble writing can use a scribe or reader. The candidate must make arrangements for their own scribe and bear the cost.

  • Technology: PwD candidates can use special tools like screen-reading software. This helps to promote independent participation.

  • Accessible Centre: All exam centres are designed to be barrier-free.

CLAT Exam Day Guidelines 2026 - Code of Conduct

Candidates must follow a certain code of conduct as provided in the CLAT 2026 exam instructions. 

  • They should reach the centre at least one hour before the exam time. 

  • Entry closes after 2:15 PM.

  •  The candidate must sign the admit card in front of the invigilator. 

  • Communication with other candidates is not allowed. 

  • Cheating is a serious offence. 

  • The candidate cannot leave the hall until the exam is over.

  • The candidate should wear sandals or slippers. Do not wear closed shoes.
