CAT percentile predictor

CAT Percentile Predictor: Candidates can check their CAT performance and expected scores using CAT percentile predictor. Each IIM sets its individual CAT cut-off percentile to select deserving candidates. The percentile predictor tool helps candidates determine their percentile score and evaluate their admission chances.

IIM Calcutta released the CAT 2024 result on 19 December . As the result is out now, IIMs will start shortlisting candidates for further valuations based on their CAT scores. To compute the CAT scores, IIM converts each candidate’s raw score into scaled scores and then compares it to performance of CAT test takers to get the percentile score.
  • The expected CAT cut-off for top IIMs in 2024 is between 97 and 100 percentiles. However, many well-known private MBA colleges accept candidates with CAT percentiles between 70 and 80.
IIM Calcutta conducted the CAT exam on 24 November and announced the CAT response sheet and answer key on 3 December. As the CAT 2024 response sheet and final answer key are available, candidates can use the CAT percentile predictor and calculator to estimate their score before the final results are announced.

What is CAT Percentile 2024?

CAT Percentile represents a comparative score that reflects candidates' ranking in relation to other CAT exam participants. In simple terms, the CAT percentile categorizes a candidate based on how they performed compared to their peers. For instance, candidates who have the 99th percentile are considered to have outperformed 99% of all the CAT test takers in that particular year.

What is CAT Percentile Predictor 2024?

CAT percentile predictor is a tool designed by experts in accordance with the updated CAT exam format and scoring system. This online tool helps candidates estimate their approximate CAT percentile based on their CAT exam performance. To get the most accurate results, candidates must enter their CAT performance information precisely. The CAT percentile predictor is accessible from tablets, mobile or laptops. Additionally, candidates don't have to pay any charges to use the CAT percentile predictor 2024.

How to Calculate CAT Percentile 2024?

The calculation method for both the individual section of the CAT and the overall percentiles of all the candidates participating in the CAT exam follows the same formula. Irrespective of the candidates' category or examination time slot, the CAT score is derived using the formula provided below: P = (R/N) × 100 where, P = Percentile ranking R = The candidate's rank, which is established by their scaled CAT score or the total number of candidates ranking lower than them. N = The total count of candidates who appeared for the CAT exam (across all three sessions). For instance, if there are 1,000 candidates taking the CAT exam, and someone (A) secures the highest rank, it implies that 999 candidates have performed relatively lower than candidate A. Consequently, A's percentile would be 99.9 (999/1000*100). cat percentile calculator for iim.

CAT Percentile Calculator for IIM

IIMs use a specific process to calculate a candidate's percentile score. The steps below explain how they do it. This method is used to find both the overall and sectional percentiles for CAT 2024. The percentile is calculated for all three sections and the total score. Here’s an easy way to understand how CAT percentile scores are calculated. Let’s take the VARC section as an example. The same process works for the other sections: Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Quantitative Ability.
  1. Count Total Candidates (N): First, find out how many candidates took the CAT exam, including those from all sessions—morning, afternoon, and evening.
  2. Assign Rank (r): Rank candidates based on their scaled scores in the VARC section. If two or more candidates have the same score, they share the same rank. For example, if two candidates have the highest score, both get rank 1, and the next rank will be 3.
  3. Calculate Percentile (P): Use this formula:

    P = [(N − r) ÷ N] × 100

  4. Round the Percentile: Round the percentile score to two decimal places. For example:
    • Scores of 99.995 or higher are rounded to 100.
    • Scores between 99.985 and 99.994 are rounded to 99.99.
This process ensures accurate percentile calculation for all sections and overall scores.

CAT Percentile Predictor 2024 FAQs

What factors are required to use the CAT percentile predictor for 2024?

The CAT percentile predictor takes into account three primary factors: the total number of CAT test-takers in 2024, a particular candidate's performance compared to other participants, and the level of difficulty in the specific slot and sections of the exam.

How do CAT marks correspond to percentiles in 2024?

To achieve a percentile of 99+ in CAT 2024, candidates must have an overall CAT score between 98 and 105. The CAT-scaled scores are calculated through the normalization process, and the shortlisting for GD/PI/WAT is based on CAT 2024 cut-off scores released by IIMs individually.

What percentile does a score of 70 marks translate to in CAT 2024?

A CAT score of 70 is roughly equivalent to a percentile in the range of 92-94.

What are the crucial details I need to use the CAT percentile predictor?

To obtain your approximate CAT percentile, you should have a clear understanding of the total questions you attempted in each section, the number of correct and incorrect responses in each section, and the distinctions between MCQs and non-MCQs.

Are CAT percentiles predicted in decimal points?

Yes, considering the large number of candidates who take the CAT exam, the percentile predictions are calculated with precision. The decimals often extend to 4-5 points. However, when IIMs officially announce the CAT percentiles, they round off the decimals to two points.
