GMAT online examination is a remote proctored alternative to the traditional test-centre-based GMAT exam . GMT Online exam is primarily designed to assist candidates in attempting the exam from home. System Requirements for GMAT Online Exam

To attempt the GMAT online exam, candidates must have access to the following system requirements:
  • Candidates must have a laptop or desktop computer; tablets or phones are not permissible.
  • It is advisable to refrain from using a work laptop, as it may have firewalls or other restrictions that could hinder the proper functioning of the GMAT software.
  • The computer's operating system must be one of the following: Windows 8.1, Windows 10, or Mac OS 10.13 and above. The approved web browsers include the latest versions of Edge, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari.
  • Candidates must have access to a microphone, speaker, and camera. These Equipment's can be either external or internal. However, they must not be integrated into a headset.

GMAT Online Exam Structure

The revised GMAT Online exam consists of the Data Insights, Quantitative, and Verbal Reasoning sections. There is no Analytical Writing Assessment Section. Each section comprises a different number of questions but a similar time duration. Candidates are allowed to select their preferred sectional sequence for GMAT. To enhance flexibility, candidates are allowed to book their test slots 24/7. This allows candidates to schedule their exam up to 24 hours before the preferred exam slot. However, to effectively plan GMAT exam preparation, candidates should book their slot for the GMAT Online exam in advance.

Scoring for GMAT Online Exam

The GMAT online exam mirrors the times and sections included in the test-centre-administered exam. Additionally, it utilises the same scoring algorithm and scale for both sectional and overall GMAT scores.

The sectional score ranges between 60 and 90 with 1 score interval. In contrast, the overall score ranges from 205 to 805 with 10 score intervals. The following table presents the detailed scoring system of the GMAT online exam according to the revised pattern:

GMAT Online Exam Score Report

Candidates will receive the unofficial score immediately after completing the GMAT online exam. Additionally, the GMAT official score report detailing individual section scores and the overall exam score will be provided to candidates 3-5 days after the exam. The official score report will also display percentiles for each score.

Sending GMAT Online Scores to B-Schools

Upon receiving the official GMAT online score, candidates have the opportunity to review it before sending it to schools. Unlike the earlier GMAT format, the latest GMAT Focus Edition allows candidates to select the schools where they want to send the score after receiving the detailed score report. Candidates can send their scores within 48 hours of receiving the official score report. GMAC allows candidates to send their GMAT online score to up to 5 programs at no extra charge. To send additional score reports, candidates will need to pay $35 for each school. The steps to send GMAT scores are as follows:
  • Visit the official GMAT website.
  • Log in using the user ID and password.
  • Click on the 'Send GMAT online score' button.
  • Select the B-schools to which candidates wish to send score reports.
  • Verify the selection and click the 'Send GMAT online score' link.

Is it Possible to Retake the GMAT Online Exam?

If candidates find their GMAT online exam score unsatisfactory, they do have the option to retake the test. However, unlike the test-centre-based GMAT exam, candidates are permitted only two attempts at the online exam. These attempts will count towards their lifetime limit of taking the GMAT a maximum of eight times. To take the GMAT a third time after two online attempts, candidates can schedule a test centre-based GMAT exam.

Setup Requirements for GMAT Online Exam

To ensure a suitable testing environment, candidates must adhere to specific conditions prescribed by GMAC regarding when and where they can take the test:
  • Candidates must be in a well-lit room without any interruptions during the test. This means public places are not allowed to take the GMAT online exam. To avoid any inconvenience or disqualification from the exam, candidates should choose a room with a closed door.
  • Scratch paper is not permitted during the GMAT online exam. Instead, candidates must use the virtual whiteboard on the screen for rough work.
  • It's recommended to sit in a chair at a desk or table rather than on a bed or couch. Although this is not explicitly stated on the GMAT website, candidates must maintain a proper posture to maintain focus and avoid hassle during the exam.
  • Candidates' desks or tables must be free of all unauthorised items, such as books, notepads, and writing items.
  • The GMAT online examination sessions are recorded, so it's advisable to wear appropriate attire, and watches must be removed and kept out of sight.
  • Candidates can have a clear glass of water bottle. However, eatables like snacks or gum are prohibited.
