Supreme Court Approves Single-Shift NEET PG 2025 After UDF Petition
The Supreme Court’s recent order mandating a single-shift format for NEET PG 2025 stems directly from concerns raised by the United Doctors Front (UDF) over score discrepancies in multi-shift exams. UDF’s petition, filed on May 1, 2025, argued that administering different question sets across multiple shifts as seen in NEET PG 2024 led to variations in difficulty levels and questioned the reliability of the normalization process used to balance scores.
“The normalization process is mathematically flawed and practically unverifiable,” the petition stated, noting that it assumes uniform difficulty and candidate aptitude across shifts an unrealistic expectation in high-stakes medical entrance exams.
UDF President Dr. Lakshya Mittal emphasized that the absence of transparency regarding raw scores, shift-wise difficulty levels, and evaluation methods undermines trust in the system. The group maintained that a single-shift examination would ensure consistency and a fair playing field for all aspirants. The Supreme Court agreed with this reasoning, instructing the National Board of Examinations (NBE) to conduct NEET PG 2025 in a single session to promote transparency and equal opportunity.

Strong Public Support and Fundraising Drive for NEET PG 2025 Petition
To support its legal efforts, UDF has launched a transparent fundraising campaign, sharing official account details (UPI ID: 70919001@ubin) on its verified social media handle, @UDF_BHARAT. The organization has cautioned against donations to personal accounts to avoid potential fraud.
Public sentiment appears to overwhelmingly support the single-shift demand. A poll conducted by UDF on platform X (formerly Twitter) saw participation from over 2,500 NEET PG aspirants, with 96% favoring a single-session format. Another survey by Shiksha.com reported that 89% of respondents opposed the two-shift plan.
UDF also sent a formal appeal to Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, citing this data and requesting urgent intervention. The group argued that moving to a “One Nation, One Shift” model would restore faith in the medical entrance system, reduce legal disputes, and prevent anxiety among candidates.

Past Exam Issues and Legal Battles Around NEET PG
In 2024, NEET PG was held in two shifts for the first time, following concerns about potential exam leaks in the undergraduate version of NEET. Authorities had slashed the number of exam centers and introduced a two-shift model to minimize risk. However, this move triggered backlash from students, parents, and education activists, who criticized the lack of transparency and accused the NBEMS of poorly implementing the normalization process.
Numerous aspirants from NEET PG 2024 who scored in the second shift alleged that their paper was significantly tougher, leading to unfair disadvantages. The absence of raw score disclosures only fueled further skepticism, prompting petitions and calls for reform.

What’s Next for NEET PG 2025?
The Supreme Court’s ruling on the UDF’s petition could have lasting implications on how national-level medical exams are conducted in India. While the Court previously declined to intervene in the NEET PG 2024 schedule due to logistical constraints, the rising pressure from stakeholders and increasing legal scrutiny could prompt a different outcome this time.
- NEET PG 2025, originally scheduled for 15th June in two separate shifts, has officially been postponed following a directive from the Supreme Court of India mandating that the exam be conducted in a single shift to ensure fairness and transparency.
- The decision was made after widespread concerns were raised about inconsistencies and unequal difficulty levels in multi-shift exams, particularly by the United Doctors Front (UDF).
- In response to the Supreme Court's directive, the National Board of Examinations (NBE) has officially rescheduled the NEET PG 2025 exam to 3rd August 2025, with the Court granting final approval. This revised date allows sufficient time for the reconfiguration of logistics and coordination with NBE’s technology partner, TCS. The exam will now be conducted in a single shift to ensure fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for all candidates.
- Candidates are advised to stay updated through the official website nbe.edu.in for announcements regarding the new date, test city selection, and admit card release.
