PW NEET PG 2025 Topper Dr. Bhavani Sagar AIR 733: Preparation Strategy & Success Story

Dr. Bhavani Sagar secured an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 733 in NEET PG 2025.

His journey is particularly inspiring because this was his second attempt, and he steadily improved his performance across multiple medical entrance examinations. In an exclusive interview, Dr. Bhavani Sagar discussed his preparation strategy, revision resources, Grand Test (GT) schedule, PYQ approach, last-month preparation and how PW Telegram sessions supported his journey.

NEET PG 2025 AIR 733: Dr. Bhavani Sagar's Journey

Dr. Bhavani Sagar is from Ashra Medical College, Andhra Pradesh, and NEET PG 2025 was his second attempt. His preparation journey shows a clear progression in performance.

He explained, “I am from Ashra Medical College, Andhra Pradesh and this was my second attempt sir. This is like post internship I mean second attempt.”

His earlier performance included a rank of 38,000 in INI-CET, followed by a rank of 1,300 in November INI-CET. He subsequently improved to a rank of 678 and finally secured AIR 733 in NEET PG 2025.

This progression demonstrates that an initial rank does not determine the final outcome. Consistent improvement, identifying mistakes and modifying the preparation strategy can significantly change performance.

How Did Dr. Bhavani Prepare for NEET PG?

Dr. Bhavani did not follow an extremely rigid preparation schedule during internship. He explained that he studied intermittently while also enjoying his internship experience.

He said, “I was on either side. I used to like sometimes prepare and you know sometimes enjoy cuz you know those days you can't get again.”

After his first attempt, however, he realised that a more focused approach could help him achieve a much better rank. He decided to dedicate an additional year to serious preparation.

His message to aspirants was also clear: “They should not get demotivated by what they actually get in their first attempt or even second attempt because I've seen so many people actually scoring very well later too.”

Rapid Revision Strategy Followed by Dr. Bhavani Sagar

After NEET PG 2024, Dr. Bhavani had to decide whether to study from main notes or a rapid revision source. Since he was initially unsure about which approach to follow, he decided to begin with rapid revision.

He explained, “I will do first rapid revision so this way you know I'll get like the core content of what is actually getting asked in the exam.”

He completed the rapid revision in around two months. He particularly used BTR as his short revision source at that stage.

However, he did not completely rely on rapid revision notes. After his November INI-CET performance, he realised that certain frequently tested topics required deeper study.

For example, he explained that topics such as breast cancer and hematology needed to be studied in greater depth from the main notes. His strategy was therefore to use revision notes to understand the core content and then refer to main notes for frequently asked or weak topics.

Importance of PYQs in NEET PG Preparation

For Dr. Bhavani, Previous Year Questions (PYQs) were among the most important resources during preparation. He solved PYQs repeatedly to identify the topics that were being tested frequently.

For NEET PG, he solved PYQs from 2017 onwards. For INI-CET, he recommended going further back and solving questions from 2011 onwards.

He explained, “For NETPG I did only from 2017 sir which are available on any app actually. But for INIC I would recommend people to do from 2011 sir because those topics as you said you know have high chances of getting asked.”

He also emphasised that repeated PYQ practice helps students recognise recurring concepts and important topics.

Why Grand Tests Were Important for Dr. Bhavani Sagar

One of the biggest lessons from Dr. Bhavani's journey was the importance of Grand Tests. He identified not giving enough GTs earlier as one of his major mistakes.

Before his November INI-CET attempt, he had given only a few GTs. He later realised that GTs were important not merely for scoring but for identifying mistakes, improving solving skills and developing exam temperament.

He said, “We don't get to know actually what topics that we know I mean we think we know them but our mistakes you know they are found in GTS right sir.”

After November INI-CET, he changed his strategy and started giving one GT every four days.

His schedule involved studying for three days and giving a GT on the fourth day, followed by reviewing the test on the same day.

How to Review a GT?

Dr. Bhavani followed a systematic method for reviewing his Grand Tests. First, he reviewed the questions he answered incorrectly. He then looked at questions where he had guessed the answer to evaluate his solving approach.

He said, “I would go from first like whatever wrong I did like I checked I checked those sir.”

He also bookmarked important or repeated topics. Questions that he answered correctly and knew confidently did not require extensive review.

Initially, reviewing a GT took around four to five hours for him. As his accuracy improved, the time reduced to approximately one to one and a half hours.

Why GT Scores Should Not Be the Main Focus

One of Dr. Bhavani's most important messages was that students should not become obsessed with their GT scores.

He explained, “Getting in GTS is not actually a thing that is required to score in actual exam sir.”

According to him, a high GT score does not guarantee a high NEET PG rank, just as a low GT score does not automatically mean poor performance in the actual examination.

The primary purpose of GTs should be to identify mistakes, revise important topics, improve solving skills and develop exam temperament.

He added, “The main goals are learning your mistakes and knowing the actual topics which are actually getting asked is like the main goal rather than scoring high in GT or scoring low in GT.”

How PW Supported Dr. Bhavani Sagar

PW's Telegram sessions were one of the resources Dr. Bhavani used during his preparation. He particularly mentioned joining strategy sessions and other live sessions whenever he came across them on Telegram.

He said, “Whenever I see like some live is there like some strategy session is there or some like cancer session is there I used to join them.”

These sessions helped him understand other students' strategies, listen to their doubts and learn from discussions.

He specifically highlighted the strategy sessions and the opportunity to interact with faculty through Telegram. These sessions provided additional guidance during his preparation journey.

Dr. Bhavani Sagar's Last 15 Days Strategy

For his final revision, Dr. Bhavani planned a 12-day revision cycle, followed by three buffer days.

He explained, “I planned my last revision for around 12 days sir. 12 days right before the exam and like three days I kept as a buffer sir.”

The buffer days were important because they gave him time to relax and manage anxiety before the examination.

He also continued using BTR during the final phase and focused on weak topics identified through GTs and previous mistakes.

His advice was to know what to read and what not to read during the final revision. Students should focus particularly on topics they repeatedly get wrong.

Dr. Bhavani Sagar's NEET PG 2025 AIR 733 journey demonstrates the importance of learning from previous attempts, repeated revision, PYQs, regular GTs and systematic mistake analysis.

His biggest lessons for NEET PG aspirants are to avoid demotivation after an unsuccessful attempt, use PYQs to identify frequently tested concepts, take GTs regularly and focus on learning from mistakes rather than chasing GT scores.

His journey from an earlier rank of 38,000 to AIR 733 in NEET PG 2025 is a strong example of how a detailed strategy and continuous improvement can transform examination performance.
