The medical education system in Nagaland is still in its early development phase. Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research(NIMSR) is a state government-owned full medical college. The college began its journey of academic session in 2023 with an annual intake of 100 MBBS seats. It is Nagaland's sincere effort to keep the medical students back in the state and give them low-cost and quality medical education in the state of Nagaland.

Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR)

Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR) is located in Kohima, the capital city of Nagaland. Since it is newly established, the facilities, infrastructure, and labs are all modern and built according to the latest National Medical Commission (NMC) standards. The teaching faculty is selected through strict norms, and the college is expected to become a major centre for medical education and healthcare services in the region.

Nagaland Institute of Medical Science and Research (NIMSR) Kohima, is the only government medical college in Nagaland, which has set up its infrastructure for all-around quality and updated facilities for medical education and patient care. Facilities of the NIMS include:

• Academic Facilities: 4 lecture theatres, all equipped with smart classrooms and high-end audio-visual teaching aids. There are departmental laboratories like micro-anatomy, histopathology, bacteriology, microbiology, parasitology, biochemistry, histology, and embryology, genetics, physiology, pharmacology etc. 

• Clinical Facilities: A 330-bedded teaching hospital attached to the college, giving students a wide and rich clinical exposure. 

• Facilities for Students: Hostels for about 250 students; sports complex for various games and physical activities; a health centre with first-aid facilities; and dining halls with quality food.

• Campus Facilities: Spread over a 120 acre campus, the medical college and hospital have been built on the slopes of the hills. All the corners of the campus have been measured and planned with the help of retention walls and filling of slopes to hold the foundation. 

• Supporting Facilities: A dedicated and trained staff of nearly 500, who work for the hospital and the college, and focus on promoting a quality curriculum, with innovation and ethics, and student support services.
