With the NEET UG 2026 results now declared, lakhs of students are wondering whether their scores are sufficient for admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, BSMS, BVSc & AH, and B.Sc Nursing.
One of the biggest misconceptions among aspirants is that there is a separate NTA cut-off for each course. In reality, NTA releases only the qualifying cut-off. Admissions to different courses depend on counselling, seat availability, reservation category, and college-wise closing ranks, not on separate cut-offs issued by NTA.
Here's what every candidate should know.
No.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) publishes only the category-wise qualifying cut-off for NEET UG. Once a candidate qualifies, they become eligible to participate in counselling for courses that accept NEET scores.
These include:
MBBS
BDS
BAMS
BHMS
BUMS
BSMS
BVSc & AH
B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing (participating institutions)
Admission to each course depends on the closing rank during counselling rather than a separate NTA cut-off.
According to the official admission framework, NEET UG 2026 scores are used for admissions to:
| Course | Admission Through NEET |
| MBBS | ✅ Yes |
| BDS | ✅ Yes |
| BAMS | ✅ Yes |
| BHMS | ✅ Yes |
| BUMS | ✅ Yes |
| BSMS | ✅ Yes |
| BVSc & AH (15% VCI Quota) | ✅ Yes |
| B.Sc. Nursing (Participating Institutions) | ✅ Yes |
While NTA does not prescribe course-wise cut-offs, previous counselling trends indicate that more competitive courses generally close at higher scores.
| Course | Typical Admission Competitiveness* |
| MBBS (Government) | Highest |
| BDS (Government) | High |
| BAMS (Government) | Moderate to High |
| BHMS | Moderate |
| BUMS | Moderate |
| BSMS | Moderate |
| BVSc & AH | Moderate |
| Private Colleges | Varies by institution |
*Actual closing scores vary by state, category, counselling round, and college.
MBBS remains the most sought-after medical course in India and therefore records the highest closing ranks during counselling.
Government MBBS seats typically close at significantly higher scores than the minimum qualifying marks because demand far exceeds available seats. This year, India has 1,36,939 approved MBBS seats after the addition of new seats for the 2026–27 academic session.
The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) is the second most preferred option for many NEET aspirants.
BDS admissions generally remain competitive, although closing scores are usually lower than MBBS, depending on the college and counselling round.
Admissions to Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) have become increasingly competitive in recent years.
Government BAMS colleges often witness strong demand, especially in states with reputed AYUSH institutions, while private colleges may have comparatively lower closing scores.
Candidates interested in Homeopathy can seek admission through BHMS.
The closing scores generally vary across states and institutions and are determined during counselling after considering seat availability and candidate preferences.
Candidates interested in traditional systems of medicine such as Unani (BUMS) and Siddha (BSMS) also require a valid NEET score.
Admissions are conducted through counselling, with cut-offs varying based on institution, state, reservation category, and counselling round.
NEET UG scores are also used for admission to Bachelor of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry (BVSc & AH) under the 15% Veterinary Council of India (VCI) quota, while remaining seats are filled through state-level processes as applicable.
Even after qualifying NEET, admission depends on several factors:
Number of seats available
Course demand
Candidate category
Counselling round
State quota vs All India Quota
College preference
Number of qualified candidates
Because of these factors, there is no single "MBBS cut-off" or "BAMS cut-off" declared by NTA.
If your score meets the official qualifying criteria:

Even if MBBS is not immediately available, candidates may secure admission in BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, BSMS, or BVSc & AH depending on their score and preferences.
