NEET 2025 Merit List is a ranked list of candidates based on their NEET exam scores. It shows the position or rank of each student who appeared for the exam, helping determine their eligibility for medical and dental college admissions across India. For the All India Quota (AIQ) seats, this merit list is prepared and released by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). The merit list is crucial because it decides which candidates can participate in the counselling process for admission to 15% AIQ seats.
Additionally, separate merit lists are released by the state counselling authorities for admission under State Quota seats, which constitute 85% of the total seats. These state lists are also based on NEET scores but consider only candidates from that particular state.
The NEET Merit List 2025 comes in three main forms, each serving a different purpose in the admission process:
This list includes all candidates who appeared for NEET 2025 across India. It is prepared by the NTA and shows the rank of every candidate based on their scores, regardless of the state or category. The AIR merit list is used for counselling of the 15% All India Quota seats available in government medical colleges.
The AIQ merit list is specifically for candidates who have opted for the 15% All India Quota seats. These seats are reserved for candidates from any state and are allotted through a centralized counselling process conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
State governments prepare their own state merit lists for admission to 85% of medical seats reserved for domiciled students. State merit list NEET 2025 are based on the All India Rank but consider the candidate’s category and domicile status. The state counselling authorities use this merit list to conduct counselling and allocate seats within the state.

NEET 2025 Tie Breaking Criteria
Sometimes, two or more candidates score the same marks in NEET 2025. In such cases, NTA applies certain tie-breaking rules to decide who will get a higher rank on the NEET merit list 2025. These rules are:
The candidate with higher marks in Biology (Botany and Zoology) will be given preference.
If the tie continues, the candidate with higher marks in Chemistry will be preferred.
If still unresolved, marks in Physics are considered.
If there is still no decision, the candidate with fewer wrong answers in all subjects combined will get preference.
If needed, the process is repeated considering fewer wrong answers subject-wise in Biology, then Chemistry, and then Physics.
If none of these rules solve the tie, the final decision will be made randomly by an expert committee.
These tie-breakers ensure fairness and accuracy in ranking candidates who have the same score.
