Salt Analysis Important Questions for NEET

Salt Analysis Important Questions for Re-NEET 2026: Salt Analysis is an important topic in NEET Chemistry that focuses on the identification of ions, chemical reactions, and qualitative analysis. Questions from this topic are regularly asked in medical entrance examinations, making it a valuable area for revision.

With Re-NEET UG 2026 scheduled for 21 June 2026, practicing important Salt Analysis questions can help candidates strengthen their conceptual understanding and improve accuracy.

Salt Analysis Important Questions for NEET Overview

Salt Analysis is an essential part of the NEET Chemistry syllabus. It involves identifying the cations and anions present in a given salt through various chemical reactions and observations. This topic is vital because it tests students' understanding of chemical principles and their ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practical scenarios. Mastering salt analysis can significantly improve performance in the NEET exam, as many questions are derived from this concept.

What is Salt Analysis?

Salt Analysis, also known as Qualitative Inorganic Analysis, is a systematic method used to identify the cations (positive ions) and anions (negative ions) present in an inorganic salt. It involves a series of steps, starting with preliminary tests such as physical examination, flame tests, and dry heating.

The process is then divided into two parts: cation analysis and anion analysis. In cation analysis, the cations are classified into different groups based on their reactions with specific reagents like hydrochloric acid (HCl), hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), and ammonium carbonate ((NH₄)₂CO₃). For instance, Group I cations like lead (Pb²⁺), silver (Ag⁺), and mercury (Hg₂²⁺) are precipitated by HCl, while Group II cations like copper (Cu²⁺) and cadmium (Cd²⁺) are precipitated by H₂S in an acidic medium.

Practice Important Questions of Salt Analysis for NEET

Q1 The gas evolved in the preliminary test of chloride ion is:

  1. SO₂
  2. Cl₂
  3. HCl
  4. NH₃

Q2 On treating sulphite with warm dil. H₂SO₄, a gas is evolved which is suffocating. The gas is:

  1. CO₂
  2. NO₂
  3. SO₂
  4. SO₃

Q3 If on heating salt with conc. H₂SO₄, light brown fumes are evolved then heat a small quantity of the given salt with few copper turnings or chips and conc. H₂SO₄. Evolution of excess of brown fumes indicates the presence of:

  1. nitrite ion
  2. nitrate ion
  3. bromide ion
  4. chloride ion

Q4 The brown ring test for NO₃⁻ is due to the formation of the complex ion with formula as

  1. [Fe(H₂O)₆]²⁺
  2. [Fe(NO(CN)₅)]²⁺
  3. [Fe(H₂O)₅NO]²⁺
  4.  [Fe(H₂O)(NO)₅]²⁺

Q5 Given below are two statements:
Statement I: NO₃⁻ and NO₂⁻ both give brown fumes with conc. H₂SO₄
Statement II: Protonation of NO₂⁻ is more easier compared to NO₃⁻ since NO₃⁻ is more stable by resonance.

In the light of the above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below:

  1. Statement I is correct but Statement II is incorrect.
  2. Statement I is incorrect but Statement II is correct.
  3. Both Statement I and Statement II are correct.
  4. Both Statement I and Statement II are incorrect.

Q6 White colouration in silver nitrate test indicates the presence of:

  1. Bromine
  2. Sulphur
  3. Iodine
  4. Chlorine

Q7 Match List-I with List-II.

List-I (Basic radical)

List-II (Group)

(A) Al³⁺

(I) 2nd group

(B) Zn²⁺

(II) 5th group

(C) Pb²⁺

(III) 4th group

(D) Ba²⁺

(IV) 3rd group

Choose the correct answer from the options given below:

  1. A-IV, B-II, C-I, D-III
  2. A-II, B-IV, C-I, D-III
  3. A-III, B-I, C-II, D-IV
  4. A-IV, B-III, C-I, D-II
