The Ministry of Home Affairs has confirmed in the Lok Sabha that retired Agniveers will get 10 per cent reservation in Constable (GD) recruitment in BSF, CISF, CRPF and SSB. Additionally, 50 per cent of vacancies in the CRPF's dedicated Ex-Agniveer Battalion and in Rifleman posts of Assam Rifles are reserved for ex-Agniveers. Agniveer CAPF Jobs 2026: 10% Quota in BSF, CISF, CRPF, SSB; 50% in Ex-Agniveer Battalion — Check Age Relaxation, PET Exemption

New Delhi: Students planning to join the Indian Army through the Agniveer scheme now have a clearly defined second career in uniform. The Centre has announced that retired Agniveers will get 10 per cent reservation in recruitment to the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) — covering the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) — creating a direct pathway for ex-Agniveers to continue serving the nation after their four-year tenure.

The announcement was made by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. Along with the CAPF vacancy reservation for Agniveers, the government has also confirmed age relaxation and key exemptions in the recruitment process.

How Much Reservation Will Retired Agniveers Get in CAPF Recruitment 2026?

According to the MHA, the reservation structure for retired Agniveers works at two levels. First, 10 per cent of vacancies in Constable (General Duty) recruitment have been earmarked across BSF, CISF, CRPF and SSB. Second — and this is the bigger headline for aspirants — 50 per cent of vacancies in the Constable (GD) posts of the CRPF's dedicated Ex-Agniveer Battalion, and 50 per cent of Rifleman posts in Assam Rifles, will be reserved exclusively for retired Agniveers.

This two-tier structure means ex-Agniveers compete both within the general CAPF recruitment cycle with a protected quota, and within dedicated battalion vacancies where half of all posts are ring-fenced for them.

Age Relaxation for Ex-Agniveers: Up To 5 Years

The Centre has also notified age relaxation for eligible candidates applying under CRPF, BSF, CISF and SSB recruitment for Agniveers:

Former Agniveers (subsequent batches): 3 years' relaxation in the upper age limit.
First batch of Agniveers: 5 years' relaxation in the upper age limit.

PET Exemption: What Retired Agniveers Skip — And What They Don't

Retired Agniveers will be fully exempted from the Physical Efficiency Test (PET), in recognition of the physical standards already achieved during four years of military service. However, they must still clear every other stage of the recruitment process — written examination, Physical Standard Test (PST) where applicable, document verification and medical examination — as prescribed by the respective force.

Why This Matters for Agniveer Scheme Aspirants

The single biggest question surrounding the Agnipath scheme since its 2022 launch has been: what happens after four years? Only 25 per cent of each Agniveer batch is retained for regular service in the armed forces. For the remaining 75 per cent, this CAPF recruitment 2026 pathway now offers one of the most concrete post-service career options announced so far.

For a student weighing the Agniveer scheme after Class 12, the maths has changed: four years of paid military service, an exit corpus under the Seva Nidhi package, and now a reserved, age-relaxed, PET-exempt route into the CRPF, BSF, CISF, SSB or Assam Rifles.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said the move is aimed at recognising the skills, discipline and training gained during military service, while allowing retired Agniveers to keep contributing to national security through the CAPFs and Assam Rifles.
