The BPSC 72nd Prelims is a single General Studies paper of the objective, multiple-choice type. The paper carries 150 marks and has a duration of two hours. The Preliminary stage is qualifying in nature — the marks are used only to shortlist candidates for the Mains and are not counted in the final merit. As per the exam scheme, incorrect answers may attract negative marking, so candidates should confirm the exact marking scheme from the official notification.
The recruitment drive covers a range of Group A and Group B administrative posts under the Government of Bihar. The Commission originally notified 1,230 vacancies, later revised to 1,186 after 44 Sugarcane Officer posts were removed. The online application window was open from May 7 to May 31, 2026.
The selection process is conducted in three stages — the Preliminary Examination, the Mains (written) Examination, and the Interview / Personality Test. Candidates who clear the Prelims will proceed to the descriptive Mains, followed by the interview stage, with the final merit prepared on the basis of Mains and interview performance.
With the exam scheduled for July 26, 2026, candidates should complete their revision, practise previous year question papers, and attempt full-length mock tests. Since the paper heavily weights Bihar-specific history, geography, economy, culture, and current affairs, aspirants are advised to cover the last 12–18 months of current events. Keep visiting bpsc.bihar.gov.in for the admit card, centre list, and further announcements.
