Students who sat the CBSE Class 12 Supplementary Examination 2026 and are unhappy with what their marksheet says can begin acting on it from today. The Central Board of Secondary Education has opened the post-result process, and the first stage — applying for a scanned copy of the evaluated answer book — runs from August 31 to September 1, 2026, on the official website, cbse.gov.in.
Applications for verification of marks and re-evaluation will open in a later phase. The board has not thrown all three windows open at once, and that sequencing is the part most students get wrong.
CBSE runs its post-result services in a fixed order, and each stage gates the next. A student who does not apply for the scanned copy of the answer book within the two-day window loses access to verification and re-evaluation entirely for that subject. There is no route that skips ahead, and there is no reopening of the window on request.
This is worth restating plainly. The scanned copy is not merely the stage where you satisfy your curiosity about how you were marked. It is the eligibility ticket for everything that follows. If you have even a suspicion that something went wrong in a paper, apply now and decide later whether to take it further.
Once the answer book reaches you, sit down with the question paper and the official marking scheme and work through three things.
First, whether every question you attempted was in fact evaluated. Unmarked answers do happen, and they are the single most recoverable error.
Second, whether the marks awarded on each question line up with the marking scheme.
Third, whether the marks have been totalled correctly across pages and carried to the title sheet accurately. Totalling slips are quiet and easy to miss.
Verification versus re-evaluation: the difference matters
The two facilities are not interchangeable, and choosing the wrong one wastes both a fee and a deadline.
Verification of marks is a clerical check. It confirms whether the marks were added up correctly and whether any question or part of a question was left unmarked. It does not involve re-grading your answer.
Re-evaluation is the substantive review. It applies to the theory component and is carried out on a complete question rather than a single sub-part you happen to disagree with. A subject-matter expert examines the answer against the marking scheme, and the decision that comes back is the final one.
CBSE has been explicit that marks may increase or decrease as a result of the process. A downward revision, even by a single mark, is implemented. Once the outcome is issued, no appeal, review or further representation will be entertained.
That does not mean students should stay away. It means the decision should rest on evidence from the scanned copy rather than on a feeling that the score was too low. If the answer book shows an unmarked question or a clear totalling error, the case is strong. If it shows careful marking you simply disagree with, the risk is real.
The fee structure for the 2026 cycle was revised downward earlier this year, with the charges for the scanned answer book and marks verification cut substantially from the levels seen in previous sessions. Students should confirm the exact per-subject and per-question amounts on the circular hosted at cbse.gov.in before paying, as the figures circulating on aggregator sites are not consistent.
The process is entirely online. Payment is accepted through the net banking gateways available on the CBSE portal. Applications must be submitted in one go — a candidate may apply for one subject or several, but partial applications submitted in instalments are not accepted, and only one application per candidate per stage will be processed.
Outcomes are uploaded to the candidate's login on the CBSE website. No individual communication is sent by post or email, so the responsibility for checking status sits with the student.
CBSE declared the Class 12 compartment result on August 12, 2026, with an overall pass percentage of 53.08. The supplementary examination itself was held on July 28, having been moved from its originally notified July 15 date.
Students are advised to work from the official circular at cbse.gov.in rather than from secondary listings, particularly for the verification and re-evaluation dates, which the board will notify separately.
