Application window: Opens 5 August 2026, closes 20 August 2026 (or two weeks from Employment News publication, whichever falls later).

DU Faculty Recruitment 2026: Delhi University Advertises 86 Permanent Teaching Posts Across 10 Departments

New Delhi: The University of Delhi has opened one of the largest single-window faculty hiring rounds of the current academic year, advertising 86 permanent teaching positions at the Associate Professor and Professor levels across ten departments.

The recruitment has been notified through two separate advertisements issued on 1 August 2026 — R&P/321/2026 covering 56 Associate Professor posts, and R&P/322/2026 covering 30 Professor posts. The online application portal opens on 5 August 2026 and closes on 20 August 2026.

These are regular, permanent appointments in the Academic Pay Matrix of the Seventh Central Pay Commission at Level 13A and Level 14 respectively — not contractual, guest or ad-hoc engagements, a distinction that matters considerably in a sector where temporary teaching arrangements have become common.

For serving Assistant Professors sitting on a strong publication record, and for researchers who have been waiting for a clean promotion-grade opening at a central university in the capital, this is a narrow fifteen-day window.

DU Faculty Vacancy 2026: Department-Wise Post Distribution

The 86 posts are unevenly spread. Philosophy alone accounts for 20 positions across both cadres — nearly a quarter of the entire drive.

Associate Professor — R&P/321/2026 (56 posts)

Department UR SC ST OBC EWS Total PwBD
Chemistry 0 1 0 1 2 4 –
Education (ITEP) 2 2 1 2 1 8 VI-1

Professor — R&P/322/2026 (30 posts)

Department UR SC ST OBC EWS Total
Chemistry 0 2 0 2 2 6

Philosophy 1 0 0 2 1 4
Zoology 1 1 0 1 1 4
Total 6 4 3 11 6 30

A point worth noting for reserved-category aspirants: OBC has the single largest share in both cadres — 17 of 56 Associate Professor posts and 11 of 30 Professor posts. Unreserved candidates, by contrast, are competing for only 15 and 6 posts respectively.

The Education vacancies are specifically tied to the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), and carry a distinct qualification track.

DU Faculty Recruitment 2026 Important Dates

Event Date
Advertisement issued 1 August 2026
Online application begins 5 August 2026
Last date to apply online 20 August 2026 (or two weeks from Employment News publication, whichever is later)
Screening and shortlisting To be notified
Presentation and interview To be announced on the DU website

The "whichever is later" clause creates ambiguity. Candidates should treat 20 August 2026 as the operative deadline and not gamble on an extension.

DU Professor and Associate Professor Eligibility 2026

Associate Professor (Level 13A)

  • Ph.D. in the concerned or an allied discipline.

  • Master's degree with a minimum of 55% marks.

  • Minimum 8 years of teaching or research experience at a level equivalent to Assistant Professor.

  • Minimum 7 research publications in peer-reviewed, UGC-CARE listed or SCOPUS-indexed journals.

  • Academic/Research Score of 75.

Professor (Level 14)

  • Option A: Ph.D. + minimum 10 research publications + research score of 120 + 10 years of teaching/research experience with demonstrated evidence of guiding doctoral research.

  • Option B: An outstanding professional with a Ph.D. and at least 10 years of significant, documented contribution to the discipline.

Education (ITEP) specific track

  • Postgraduate degree in Sciences, Mathematics, Social Sciences, Commerce or Languages, plus M.Ed., plus Ph.D. in Education, with 8 years of teaching experience in a teacher education institute.

Critical publication caveat: Papers under submission do not count. Only publications in UGC-CARE listed journals published before the 11 February 2025 cut-off, or in SCOPUS-indexed journals, are accepted toward the research score. This single clause quietly disqualifies a large number of otherwise experienced applicants every cycle.

Age limit: No upper age ceiling has been prescribed in either advertisement. Eligibility is reckoned as on the closing date of application.

PwBD: Horizontal reservation for visual impairment (VI) and locomotor disability (LD) is available in specified departments.

Serving employees: A No Objection Certificate along with vigilance clearance must be produced at the interview stage.

DU Faculty Salary 2026: What You Actually Take Home in Delhi

Post Pay Level Basic Pay Approx. Monthly In-Hand (Delhi, X-class)
Associate Professor Academic Level 13A ₹1,31,400 – ₹2,17,100 ₹2.00 – ₹2.40 lakh
Professor Academic Level 14 ₹1,44,200 – ₹2,18,200 ₹2.20 – ₹2.70 lakh

The in-hand figure is built from basic pay plus Dearness Allowance (approximately 55% in the current 2026 cycle), House Rent Allowance at 30% for Delhi as an X-class city, and other admissible allowances — less the mandatory 10% NPS contribution and standard deductions.

Beyond the pay slip, appointees receive access to research grants, doctoral supervision rights, and progression through the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS).

Application Fee — And the Detail Most Candidates Miss

Category Fee
Unreserved (UR) ₹2,000
OBC / EWS / Women ₹1,500
SC / ST ₹1,000
PwBD ₹500

The fee is non-refundable and payable online only. Crucially, a separate application and separate fee is required for every department applied to — a candidate targeting three departments pays three times. Candidates who applied earlier for the same post in specified departments where the interview was not subsequently held may claim exemption on producing proof.

How to Apply for DU Faculty Recruitment 2026: Step by Step

  1. Open the "Work with DU" section on du.ac.in, or go directly to the recruitment portal at rec.uod.ac.in.

  2. Select the correct advertisement — R&P/321/2026 for Associate Professor or R&P/322/2026 for Professor — and then the specific department.

  3. Register or log in and complete the online application form.

  4. Upload supporting documents: degree certificates, marksheets, experience certificates, the publications list with proof, the research score calculation sheet, and category certificates.

  5. Pay the application fee online.

  6. Submit before the portal closes on 20 August 2026 and retain a printout.

Selection Process: No Written Exam, But a Brutal Screening Filter

  1. Screening of all applications strictly against the Academic/Research Score — minimum 75 for Associate Professor, 120 for Professor.

  2. Shortlisting — a minimum of 30 candidates for the first vacancy in each category, plus 10 additional candidates per further vacancy, including tied scores.

  3. Presentation before the Selection Committee, graded A to D on an indicative basis.

  4. Interview by the duly constituted Selection Committee.

  5. Final recommendation, appointment, document verification, medical fitness, and probation as per University of Delhi statutes.

Meeting the minimum eligibility does not guarantee an interview call. No TA/DA is payable to candidates appearing for interview.

Documents to Keep Ready

  • Printout of the submitted online application

  • Ph.D. degree certificate and Master's marksheets

  • Experience certificates

  • Publications list with verifiable proof (UGC-CARE / SCOPUS)

  • Research score calculation sheet

  • Category certificate — SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwBD in the prescribed format (current financial year for OBC and EWS)

  • PwBD disability certificate showing 40% or more disability, if applicable

  • NOC with vigilance clearance for employed candidates

  • Valid photo identification

Originals and self-attested photocopies are required at the interview stage.

Five Mistakes That Cost Candidates a DU Interview Call

  1. Applying to the wrong department without checking the department-specific vacancy table.

  2. Over-claiming research score on publications that fall outside the accepted UGC-CARE cut-off of 11 February 2025.

  3. Uploading incomplete or non-verifiable category certificates, particularly outdated OBC-NCL or EWS certificates.

  4. Paying a single fee while applying to multiple departments.

  5. Waiting for the last day — portal load on closing day is a recurring cause of failed submissions.

Analyst's Take: Who Should Apply, Who Should Skip

Compared with recent faculty drives at other central universities, this DU notification is unusually clean — department-specific, permanent, and free of the contractual complications that have crept into higher education hiring. The research score thresholds of 75 and 120 are standard UGC norms rather than inflated internal bars.

Strong fit: Serving Assistant Professors and researchers with a completed Ph.D., a solid SCOPUS or UGC-CARE publication record, and documented teaching experience, who want a permanent central university post in Delhi.

Should skip: Fresh Ph.D. holders who do not meet the eight-year experience requirement, and candidates whose publications fall outside the accepted journal lists after the February 2025 cut-off.

Practical advice: Compute your research score strictly per the screening guidelines before paying the fee. The largest single cause of rejection in DU faculty rounds is not weak credentials — it is inflated self-assessment at the screening stage.
