
With the GATE 2026 exam just around the corner, IIT Guwahati is set to host one of India’s most competitive engineering entrance tests. Starting February 7, 2026, thousands of aspirants will head to computer-based testing centers nationwide. To ensure a smooth exam day, here is everything you need to know about the schedule, mandatory documents, and strict hall protocols.
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) will be conducted over four days in February. Each day features two distinct sessions:

GATE 2026 Admit Card: A clear, hard copy printed on A4 size paper. Digital copies on mobile phones are strictly prohibited.
Original Photo ID: A valid, non-expired ID (the same one used during registration). Accepted IDs include:

To maintain exam integrity, IIT Guwahati has enforced a zero-tolerance policy for electronic gadgets and specific personal belongings.
No Electronics: Mobile phones, smartwatches, physical calculators, and Bluetooth devices are banned. A virtual calculator will be provided on your computer screen.
No Stationery: Do not bring notebooks or loose paper. A scribble pad will be provided for rough work, which must be returned to the invigilator after the test.
Dress Code Tips: Wear simple, comfortable clothing. Avoid bulky jackets or items with excessive pockets and metal buttons to speed up the frisking process.
Double-check your shift timing (Forenoon vs. Afternoon).
Ensure your photo and signature on the admit card are clearly legible.
Pack a transparent water bottle if needed.
Write your name and registration number on the provided scribble pad as soon as you receive it.
Failure to comply with these regulations can lead to immediate disqualification. Stay prepared, follow the invigilator’s instructions, and focus on your performance.
