trainee-level engineering posts, offering one of the most sought-after entry routes into India's aerospace and defence manufacturing sector this year.
The Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence issued the notification under Advertisement No. HAL/CHRC-TM/RECT-02/2026. Registration opened on July 29, 2026 at 2:00 PM and will close on August 14, 2026 at 2:00 PM. Applications are accepted only through the official careers portal at hal-india.co.in.
The recruitment drive aims to fill 60 Design Trainee (DT) and 60 Management Trainee (MT) vacancies across multiple engineering disciplines.
Selected candidates will be posted at HAL's production, overhaul and service divisions, research and design centres, and offices located in Bengaluru, Tumakuru, Hyderabad, Nashik, Koraput, Barrackpore, Lucknow, Kanpur and Korwa. Design Trainee posts are primarily mapped to HAL's Research and Design Centres, while Management Trainee posts are attached to production, overhaul and service divisions.
| Event | Date |
| Notification released | July 29, 2026 |
| Online application starts | July 29, 2026 (2:00 PM) |
| Last date to apply | August 14, 2026 (2:00 PM) |
| Admit card release (expected) | August 20, 2026 |
| Computer Based Test | September 5 and 6, 2026 |
Mechanical engineering graduates have the strongest numerical advantage in this cycle, with 49 combined openings across both streams, followed by Electronics with 32 posts and Electrical with 18.
Candidates must possess a full-time Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology in the prescribed discipline from a recognised university or institution.
Applicants belonging to the UR, OBC-NCL and EWS categories must have secured at least 70 per cent aggregate marks, while SC, ST and PwBD candidates require a minimum of 60 per cent.
Final-year engineering students are also eligible to apply, provided they meet the required aggregate marks up to their latest semester and produce proof of passing the degree before the interview.
The degree must be under the 10+2+4 pattern, or 10+3+3 for lateral entry candidates. The upper age limit is 28 years as on August 14, 2026, for UR and EWS applicants, with relaxation for SC, ST, OBC and PwBD candidates as per Government of India norms.
The selection process is a two-stage exercise followed by verification:
Online Computer Based Test (CBT) — objective-type paper covering General Awareness, English and Reasoning, plus a discipline-specific technical section that carries the heaviest weightage.
Personal Interview — assessing technical depth, problem-solving approach and, for MT aspirants, managerial aptitude.
Document verification and medical examination.
The final merit list will be prepared using an 85:15 weightage, with 85 per cent assigned to the CBT score and 15 per cent to the interview. This weighting means the written test is effectively decisive, and candidates should treat the September 5-6 CBT as the primary hurdle rather than the interview.
Selected candidates undergo a 52-week structured training programme combining classroom modules with on-the-job training across HAL facilities.
During training, trainees draw a stipend comprising a basic pay of Rs 50,000 per month, along with Variable Dearness Allowance and Canteen Allowance. Bachelor accommodation is admissible during the training period as per company rules.
On successful completion of training, trainees are absorbed as Engineers in the Grade-II pay scale of Rs 50,000 to Rs 1,60,000, along with Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Performance Related Pay, medical facilities, provident fund and gratuity.
A note of caution for aspirants: the upper figure of Rs 1,60,000 is the ceiling of the pay band, not a starting monthly salary. Actual take-home pay depends on basic pay, applicable allowances, posting location and statutory deductions.
Candidates must pay Rs 500, inclusive of GST, through online mode only. SC, ST, PwBD and internal HAL candidates are exempted from the fee. Fees once paid are non-refundable.
Selected candidates are required to execute a Service Agreement Bond committing to serve HAL for five years, excluding the training period. The maximum liability in case of breach is Rs 15,00,000. Applicants should read this clause carefully before accepting an offer, as it is a binding financial commitment.
Step 1: Visit the official website hal-india.co.in. Step 2: Navigate to the "Careers" section on the homepage. Step 3: Locate the advertisement for HAL/CHRC-TM/RECT-02/2026 and open the application link. Step 4: Read the detailed notification PDF in full before registering. Step 5: Register using a valid email ID and mobile number. Step 6: Fill in personal, academic and discipline preference details accurately. Step 7: Upload the scanned photograph, signature and supporting documents as per specifications. Step 8: Pay the application fee online, where applicable. Step 9: Submit the form and download the confirmation page for future reference.
HAL has specified that candidates may apply for only one post. Submitting applications for more than one position — for instance, both Management Trainee (Mechanical) and Design Trainee (Mechanical) — will result in rejection of candidature, and the application fee paid will be forfeited. Applicants must therefore choose between the design track and the management track before registering.
Candidates are also advised to complete the entire process, including fee payment, well before the August 14 deadline. Incomplete applications or unpaid fees render the submission invalid, and portal traffic typically spikes sharply in the final 48 hours of a HAL recruitment cycle.
HAL is among South Asia's largest aeronautical organisations, responsible for the design, development, manufacture, maintenance, repair and overhaul of aircraft, helicopters, aero-engines, avionics and allied aerospace systems. With India's defence indigenisation push accelerating, trainee intakes at HAL have become a direct pipeline into programmes of national significance.
For engineering graduates weighing PSU options against private sector placements, the combination of a Maharatna employer, a structured one-year training programme and a Grade-II absorption pathway makes this cycle worth a close look — particularly for Mechanical and Electronics candidates, where the vacancy count is highest.
Candidates should verify every detail from the official notification PDF on hal-india.co.in before applying, as recruitment terms are subject to change by the recruiting authority.
