IIT JAM 2027: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, the organising institute for the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2027, has officially launched the exam website — jam.iitkgp.ac.in. Along with the portal, the institute has also announced the complete exam schedule, giving science aspirants a clear roadmap for the upcoming admission cycle.
As per the schedule, the JAM 2027 registration process will begin on September 5, 2026, and the application window will remain open until October 12, 2026. The information brochure will be released on August 22, 2026, ahead of the opening of the application portal. Candidates will be able to apply through the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) accessible via the official website.
The entrance examination will be conducted on February 14, 2027, in computer-based test (CBT) mode across approximately 100 cities. JAM scores open the door to MSc, Joint MSc-PhD, MSc-PhD dual degree and other post-bachelor's programmes at the IITs, along with postgraduate admissions at IISc, NITs and several other participating institutes.
Information brochure release: August 22, 2026
Registration begins (JOAPS portal opens): September 5, 2026
Last date to apply: October 12, 2026
JAM 2027 exam date: February 14, 2027 (CBT mode, two sessions)
Result declaration: March 2027 (tentative)
The examination will be conducted for seven test papers — Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Economics (EN), Geology (GG), Mathematical Statistics (MS), Mathematics (MA) and Physics (PH) — held in two sessions on February 14. Candidates can appear for either one or two test papers; however, those opting for two papers can only choose papers scheduled in different sessions. A single application form must be submitted even when appearing for two papers.
Candidates who have completed a bachelor's degree, or are in the final year of their undergraduate programme, are eligible to apply. There is no age restriction for appearing in JAM 2027, and candidates of all nationalities can apply, subject to the admission rules of the respective admitting institute. Aspirants are advised to go through the detailed subject-wise eligibility requirements in the information brochure releasing on August 22 before filling the form.
Once the portal opens on September 5, candidates can follow these steps to complete their application:
Visit the official website — jam.iitkgp.ac.in.
Open the JOAPS candidate portal and register with your name, valid email ID, mobile number, and a password.
Log in using the enrolment ID or registered email ID.
Fill in the application form with personal, academic, and exam-related details.
Select one or two test papers (two papers must fall in different sessions).
Upload your photograph, signature, and required documents as per the specifications.
Upload category/PwD certificates, if applicable.
Pay the application fee online and review the entire form carefully.
Submit the application and download the confirmation for records.
Admission through JAM is based on the candidate's All India Rank (AIR); however, qualifying the exam does not automatically guarantee a seat, as admitting institutes independently verify educational qualifications and eligibility, and candidates must submit required documents within the specified deadlines. IIT Kharagpur has also clarified that its decision regarding the examination process will be final and binding on applicants.
Candidates should keep a valid email ID and mobile number handy for registration, as all communication happens through JOAPS. With roughly three weeks left before the portal opens, aspirants can use this time to review the syllabus, gather documents, and go through the brochure once it is released on August 22.
