The Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) is a national entrance exam for admission to postgraduate science and related programmes — including MSc, Joint MSc-PhD, MSc-PhD dual degree and other post-bachelor programmes — offered by the IITs and other participating institutes. Candidates who qualify are subsequently eligible to take part in the admission process at institutions that accept JAM scores.
Candidates can apply for one or two test papers from the seven subjects on offer: Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Economics (EN), Geology (GG), Mathematics (MA), Mathematical Statistics (MS) and Physics (PH). Those opting for two papers must choose a combination that is scheduled in different examination sessions, so checking the paper-wise session schedule before applying is essential.
IIT JAM 2027 will be conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode in two sessions on the same day, across 114 cities in India. As per the brochure, the forenoon session (9:30 am to 12:30 pm) is scheduled for Chemistry (CY), Geology (GG) and Mathematics (MA), with the remaining papers held in the second session. Candidates should confirm the exact session timings for their chosen paper(s) in the official brochure.
JAM is open to candidates who hold a bachelor's degree, and final-year undergraduate students are also eligible to apply, subject to submitting the required proof by the specified date. Candidates should refer to the JAM 2027 brochure for the full eligibility clauses and the specific requirements set by admitting institutes.
