The Indian Army has opened online registration for the Short Service Commission (SSC) Judge Advocate General (JAG) Entry Scheme, 125th Course. Law graduates who want to serve in the Army's legal branch as commissioned officers can submit the JAG Entry application form 2026 on the official website, joinindianarmy.nic.in. The application window closes on August 17, 2026.
The Indian Army JAG Entry 2026 notification is open to unmarried male and female candidates holding a law degree. Unlike most defence entries, there is no separate written examination for this recruitment. Shortlisting is done directly on the basis of the CLAT PG 2026 score, which makes the entry one of the shortest routes for a law graduate to earn a commission in the Indian Army.

Before filling the JAG Entry application form 2026, candidates are strongly advised to read the detailed notification, since eligibility conditions relating to degree recognition, percentage calculation and marital status are strictly enforced at the document verification stage.
The selection process for the JAG Entry Scheme 2026 has three clear stages.
Stage 1 – Shortlisting: The Army prepares a shortlist based on CLAT PG 2026 scores. There is no separate written test conducted by the Indian Army for this entry. The cut-off depends on the number of applications received and the vacancies notified.
Stage 2 – SSB Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called to a Selection Centre for the Services Selection Board interview. The SSB is conducted over five days and covers the Officer Intelligence Rating test, Picture Perception and Description Test, group testing tasks, psychological assessment and a personal interview, followed by the conference.
Stage 3 – Medical Examination: Candidates recommended by the SSB undergo a medical examination by a Military Hospital board.
Final selection is made on the basis of overall merit and medical fitness, subject to the availability of vacancies.
Judge Advocate General officers are the legal officers of the Indian Army. Their work covers advising military authorities on legal questions, conducting and overseeing court-martial proceedings, interpreting and applying military law, handling administrative and disciplinary matters, and providing legal opinions on service regulations, human rights matters and operational law.
For a law graduate, the JAG branch offers courtroom exposure and advisory work that is difficult to obtain early in a civilian litigation career, along with the pay, allowances and status of a commissioned officer.
