The wait for India’s most prestigious engineering entrance exam is over. IIT Roorkee, the organizing institute, has officially confirmed that JEE Advanced 2026 will be held on May 17, 2026.
Despite recent discussions in academic circles about returning to traditional formats for national exams, IIT Roorkee has clarified that JEE Advanced 2026 will strictly follow the Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. There is no offline (OMR-based) option for the B.Tech entrance.

To land on the merit list for IIT admissions, candidates must navigate a rigorous selection funnel. The most critical hurdle is the JEE Main 2026 cutoff.
Only the top 2,50,000 successful candidates from JEE Main 2026 (including all categories) will be permitted to register for the Advanced stage.
The JEE Advanced date is strategically placed after the two sessions of JEE Main 2026:
JEE Main Session 1: January 21 – 30, 2026
JEE Main Session 2: April 1 – 10, 2026
JEE Advanced Registration: Expected to begin in the last week of April 2026.
The exam remains a test of endurance as much as intellect. Candidates must appear for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 to be eligible for a rank.
Shift 1 (Paper 1): 09:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Shift 2 (Paper 2): 02:30 PM to 05:30 PM
SEO Pro-Tip for Aspirants: Keep a close watch on jeeadv.ac.in. While the mode is confirmed as CBT, the specific marking scheme (negative marking, partial marks, etc.) is typically revealed only on the day of the exam through the digital instruction screen.
