As the National Testing Agency (NTA) gears up for the JEE Main 2026 January session—scheduled between January 21 and January 30, 2026—a major update regarding the APAAR ID (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) has been released. This "One Nation, One Student ID" is designed to create a seamless digital academic journey for engineering aspirants across India.
According to the latest notification on jeemain.nta.nic.in, the APAAR ID is optional but highly recommended. While a dedicated field has been added to the personal and academic sections of the JEE Main application form, candidates can complete their registration without it. However, using the ID allows the NTA server to automatically verify academic credentials, significantly reducing the chances of form rejection due to manual errors.
What is the APAAR ID and Why Do You Need It?
The APAAR ID is a unique 12-digit permanent identifier linked to the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC).
Digital Credit Wallet: It tracks academic "credits" earned through theory, tutorials, or lab work (1 credit = approx. 1 hour/week per semester).
Centralized Repository: It securely holds all your verified marksheets, degrees, and entrance exam results in one place, integrated with DigiLocker.
Counseling Advantage: Post-JEE results, the APAAR ID is expected to be a critical component during JoSAA/CSAB counseling for verified seat allocation and credit transfers.
1. For Individual Aspirants (Self-Registration)
Step 1: Visit abc.gov.in or digilocker.gov.in.
Step 2: Navigate to "My Account," select "Student," and log in using your Aadhaar-linked mobile number
Step 3: Complete the e-KYC process via DigiLocker authentication.
Step 4: Select your institution and admission year to fetch your unique APAAR ID card.
Provisional IDs are typically generated by schools through the UDISE+ system. Students must ensure their parents have provided consent for Aadhaar verification, after which the ID can be downloaded via the parent's DigiLocker account.
Integrating APAAR ID into the JEE Main Form
Candidates will find an 'Additional Section' in the 2026 application portal. By entering and validating your 12-digit APAAR ID, the system will instantly fetch your verified data from the National Academic Depository (NAD), ensuring your application is 100% accurate before submission.
Exam Dates: January 21 – 30, 2026.

Key Benefit: Facilitates lifelong academic mobility and instant credential verification for future admissions.
Aspirants are encouraged to generate their APAAR ID early to avoid last-minute technical traffic on the ABC portal during the peak registration window.
