As the National Testing Agency (NTA) prepares to open the registration window for the JEE Main 2026 April session (Session 2), a common point of confusion for aspirants is the application process for multiple attempts. Understanding whether you need a new form is vital to avoid the "Multiple Application Number" error, which can lead to disqualification.
Below is the official breakdown of the registration requirements for the April session.
The NTA follows a strict "One Candidate, One Application" rule for a single academic year. This means your identity in the NTA database is tied to a single Application Number for both the January and April sessions.
For Session 1 Registered Candidates: You do not need to fill out a new registration form. You will use your existing credentials to extend your application to the April attempt.
For First-Time Applicants in Session 2: If you did not apply for the January session, you must complete a fresh registration to generate your unique Application Number.
If you already applied for the January (Session 1) attempt, follow these steps to register for the April (Session 2) attempt:
Login: Access the official website at jeemain.nta.nic.in.
Credentials: Use your Session 1 Application Number and Password to log in.
Course Selection: Select the paper you wish to appear for (B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch, or B.Plan).
City Selection: Choose your preferred examination cities for the April attempt.
Fee Payment: Pay the required examination fee for Session 2. Your application is not considered valid until the transaction is successful.
If you are applying for the first time in the April session:
Step 1: Registration: Provide personal details, email, and mobile number to generate an Application Number.
Step 2: Application Form: Fill in academic details, including Class 10 and Class 12 information.
Step 3: Document Upload: Upload a recent photograph (live capture may be required) and a scanned signature.
Step 4: Payment: Pay the fee via Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card, or UPI.
| Feature | Registered Session 1 Candidates | New Session 2 Applicants |
| Application ID | Use January Session ID | Generate New ID |
| Form Entry | Pre-filled Personal Details | Full Entry Required |
| Document Upload | Generally not required again | Mandatory Uploads |
| Exam Fee | Pay for Session 2 only | Pay for Session 2 only |
| Status | Session 2 Addition | Fresh Registration |
Avoid Multiple Forms: Never fill out more than one application form for the same year. If the NTA detects two different Application Numbers for the same candidate, it is treated as Unfair Means (UFM) and may result in the cancellation of your results.
Correction Window: While you can select your paper and city for Session 2, major changes to your profile (like your Name or Date of Birth) are usually restricted to the official correction window.
Fee Non-Refundable: Once paid, the fee for Session 2 will not be refunded or transferred to any other exam.
