This development comes directly on the heels of the CBSE Class 12 On-Screen Marking controversy, which triggered a massive revaluation exercise involving over 1.6 lakh students nationwide. Many candidates saw their marks go up after revaluation — but several KCET aspirants alleged that KEA was not updating their ranks despite the revised scores, leaving them anxious just weeks before crucial engineering, medical-allied, pharmacy, and agriculture counselling rounds begin. KEA's latest notice is a direct response to these complaints and is expected to bring relief to hundreds of affected students.
Candidates whose Class 12 marks have changed after revaluation must now:
Submit a physical copy of the updated Class 12 marksheet at the KEA Office, 18th Cross, Malleshwaram, Bengaluru
Do this in person, between July 4 and July 6
Marks will be considered valid only after verification through the student's DigiLocker account
Once verified, KCET ranks will be revised to reflect the updated Class 12 scores
This step is critical because KCET rank calculation is not based on the entrance exam alone.
KCET (Karnataka Common Entrance Test) is the state-level gateway to undergraduate professional courses in Karnataka, including engineering, pharmacy, agriculture, and veterinary science. Ranks are determined using a 50:50 weightage formula:
50% weightage — KCET score (out of 180)
50% weightage — Class 12 marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (out of 300)
Because of this formula, any change in Class 12 PCM marks — such as those arising from the CBSE revaluation process — directly impacts a candidate's final KCET rank. This is exactly why the marksheet resubmission and DigiLocker verification step matters so much this year.
