The MHT CET Result 2026 season is now underway. The State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra, has released the MHT CET 2026 result for the PCB group's first attempt on its official website, cetcell.mahacet.org. The PCM result is expected to follow shortly.

For lakhs of Maharashtra engineering and pharmacy aspirants, the result declaration marks the beginning of the next critical phase: downloading the scorecard, understanding how the new "best of two attempts" rule applies, and preparing for the Centralised Admission Process (CAP).

This article covers everything students need to know — from result download steps to CAP counselling rounds, documents, and seat allotment — in one place.

MHT CET 2026 Result: Key Highlights and the New Two-Attempt Format

This year, MHT CET moved to a two-session format for the first time. Session 1 was held in April 2026, and Session 2 was held in May 2026, making MHT CET 2026 the first edition to follow a dual-attempt structure similar to JEE Main.

The best score out of the two attempts will be considered for admissions, just like JEE Main. This change was announced by Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil after a review meeting with the Maharashtra CET Cell.

The higher total percentile score obtained across the two attempts will be considered. Subject-wise percentiles are not combined — admission decisions will be based solely on the best overall percentile score.

The MHT CET 2026 scorecard will show the best percentile score among the attempts made (April or May), not both. The final merit list is prepared as a single consolidated list.

This is a significant policy change that benefits students who appeared in both sessions. If a candidate fails to perform well in Session 1, they can rely on their Session 2 MHT CET score for admission. Appearing in the second attempt is not mandatory if a student is satisfied with their Session 1 performance.

What Your MHT CET 2026 Scorecard Shows

Your scorecard will contain the following details:

  • Candidate name and roll number
  • Subject-wise percentile scores (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology)
  • Best overall percentile across both attempts
  • Topper's details and your rank position
  • Registration number and category

Results are displayed separately for the PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) and PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) groups.

Understanding the Percentile and Normalisation Process

MHT CET 2026 was conducted across multiple shifts and sessions. The CET Cell calculates scores using the percentile-based normalization method. Percentile scores are derived from the raw marks secured by candidates in their respective examination sessions — this process ensures fairness and maintains score consistency across different shifts.

Since there is no negative marking in MHT CET, the PCB paper marks are calculated as: Physics correct answers × 1 + Chemistry correct answers × 1 + Biology correct answers × 1. For the PCM paper, Physics and Chemistry carry 1 mark per question while Mathematics carries 2 marks per question.

What is a good score? A score of 150+ out of 200 is generally considered a strong score, typically securing a 99+ percentile. As per MHT CET cutoffs, admission chances depend on a candidate's category and preferred branch.

Minimum qualifying percentile: Generally, 45 percentile for the General category and 40 percentile for the reserved category are required to qualify for the exam.

What Happens Next: The CAP Counselling Process

After results, students who qualify must register for the state's Centralised Admission Process (CAP) to secure a seat in B.Tech, B.E., or B.Arch programs. Seat allotment is based strictly on the candidate's percentile rank, category, and college preferences filled during CAP counselling.

The MHT CET CAP counselling includes more than 1.3–1.5 lakh seats in government, aided, private, autonomous, and minority colleges within Maharashtra. The counselling consists of 3 CAP rounds and one institutional round if more seats remain vacant.

The Four-Stage CAP Process

Stage 1 — Counselling Registration Candidates will have to fill up the application form of MHT CET counselling 2026 from the official website, upload scanned copies of required documents, and pay the registration fee. Document verification is carried out through e-scrutiny (online) mode.

Stage 2 — Merit List A provisional merit list will be published. Candidates can submit grievances during the objection window. A final merit list follows.

Stage 3 — Choice Filling & Option Form The MHT CET CAP choice filling will be conducted in online mode. Candidates must select their preferred colleges and courses in order of preference by logging in to cetcell.mahacet.org. Since allotment of seats will be done based on the choice-filling process, candidates are advised to fill out the option form carefully.

Stage 4 — Seat Allotment & Reporting. Candidates allotted a seat must confirm their admission online by paying the seat confirmation fees and then report to the allotted institute. Candidates have the option of exercising freeze, float, or slide during seat acceptance.

Seat Distribution

85% seats are reserved for Maharashtra students, and 15% are for All India Quota (AIQ) candidates, with category-wise distribution as per state norms.

Important Instructions for Candidates

  • The seat acceptance fee has been revised. The seat acceptance fee has been increased from ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 for MHT CET 2026 CAP counselling.
  • Students who appeared in only one attempt are equally eligible for CAP — there is no penalty for skipping the second session.
  • Do not rely on unofficial results or counselling links — always use cetcell.mahacet.org.
  • Candidates applying through the JEE Main score will be on a separate merit list from MHT CET candidates.
  • Keep multiple printouts of the scorecard — institutions will ask for hard copies at the time of reporting.

Top Colleges Accessible Through MHT CET CAP

Through the CAP process, candidates seek admission to some of Maharashtra's premier institutes, including COEP Technological University Pune, VJTI Mumbai, and ICT Mumbai. Other top colleges include Government College of Engineering Aurangabad, Sardar Patel College of Engineering, and several autonomous institutes.

Previous Trends and What to Expect in 2026

Based on the past three years of MHT CET results and CAP timelines:

Previous Trends and What to Expect in 2026
Year PCM/PCB Result CAP Registration CAP Round 1 Allotment
MHT CET 2025 June 16–17, 2025 July 2025 July 31, 2025
MHT CET 2024 June 10, 2024 July 2024 August 2024
MHT CET 2023 June 12, 2023 June–July 2023 July–August 2023

Based on the 2025 pattern, results were declared on June 16 for PCM and June 17 for PCB. For 2026, results and counselling timelines are expected to follow a similar schedule, with the CET Cell expected to release the PCM result shortly and CAP registration beginning in late June or July 2026.

The biggest change in 2026 is the two-attempt format. Over 7 lakh candidates appear for MHT CET every year, and the introduction of a second session is expected to increase total test-taker numbers significantly. Merit list preparation may take slightly longer this year given the two-session normalization process.

FAQs: MHT CET Result 2026 and Counselling

Q1. When will the MHT CET 2026 PCM result be declared?

The MHT CET 2026 PCB result has been declared. The PCM result is expected shortly on cetcell.mahacet.org. No official date has been announced yet.

Q2. Will the scorecard show scores from both attempts or only the best one?

The MHT CET 2026 scorecard will show the best percentile score among the attempts made (April or May), not both.

Q3. I only appeared for one attempt. Am I still eligible for CAP counselling?

Yes. Appearing in both sessions is not mandatory. Students who sat for only one attempt — Session 1 or Session 2 — are fully eligible to participate in CAP counselling based on that single attempt's score.

Q4. What is the minimum percentile needed to participate in CAP?

There are no strict passing marks in MHT CET, but candidates must obtain a non-zero score to participate in the counselling process. Practically, a percentile of 45 and above is considered competitive for General category candidates.

Q5. How many CAP rounds will be held in 2026?

As per last year's pattern, there will be 4 rounds for the MHT CET counselling and seat allotment process — 3 main CAP rounds and one institutional-level round for vacant seats. The official 2026 schedule has not been released yet.

Q6. When will MHT CET 2026 CAP counselling registration begin? The MHT CET 2026 counselling process is expected to begin in mid to late June 2026 after MHT CET results are announced. Since the official schedule has not been released yet, candidates should regularly check cetcell.mahacet.org for updates.
