NEET UG Government Cut-Off: The NEET UG 2026 re-test results are out, with a total of 11.21 lakh candidates qualifying. The counselling process will begin soon, with the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) releasing the counselling schedule for All India Quota (AIQ) seats and the respective state authorities releasing the state quota schedule.

Students aim to secure admission into top government colleges for their MBBS programme. However, the competition remains intense this year also, as 10,160 candidates have scored 600 marks and above, while 1,492 candidates scored 650 marks and above.

That number is the story. With roughly 60,000-odd government MBBS seats nationally and only about 15% of them routed through All India Quota, a 600+ score no longer guarantees what it once did — it makes you competitive, not comfortable.

NEET Cut-Off For Government MBBS Admissions (Expected, Category-Wise)

Students must note that the admission cut-off is used to determine a candidate's eligibility for admission into government medical colleges, while the qualifying cut-off measures a candidate's eligibility to pass the NEET UG examination.

Important: The table below is an expected/indicative range based on previous years' closing-rank trends and this year's score distribution. It is not issued by NTA. Actual closing marks are decided only when MCC and state authorities publish round-wise seat allotment results.

How to read this table: the upper end is what you need for premier government colleges (AIIMS Delhi, MAMC, Grant Medical College, Osmania). The lower end is where newer state government medical colleges and later rounds — mop-up and stray vacancy — realistically open up.

Admission Cut-Off vs Qualifying Cut-Off: The Difference That Costs Seats

This is the single most misread distinction in NEET admissions, and it wrecks counselling strategies every year.

Clearing 213 marks as a General candidate makes you NEET-qualified. It does not make you government-MBBS-eligible in any practical sense. The real fight starts roughly 340 marks higher.

NEET UG 2026 Government MBBS Colleges & Seat Matrix

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the official MBBS seat matrix for NEET UG 2026 counselling, showing 25 new medical colleges established across India, adding 2,400 new MBBS seats for the 2026-27 session — of which 7 are government medical colleges contributing 400 seats and 18 are private colleges adding 2,000 seats. In total, NMC approved 9,911 additional MBBS seats, taking India's intake capacity to 1,36,939 seats across 823 medical colleges.

Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh saw the highest expansion in newly established colleges and MBBS seats.

What this means for cut-offs: more seats generally soften closing ranks at the margins — but because 83% of the new capacity is private, the government MBBS cut-off relief is modest. Expect government closing ranks to hold near last year's levels, not collapse.

Quota split candidates must understand:

• All India Quota (AIQ) — 15% of government seats → conducted by MCC at mcc.nic.in

• State Quota — 85% of government seats → conducted by state counselling authorities

• Register for both. They are separate portals, separate fees, separate deadlines.

NEET UG Counselling 2026: MCC Schedule Expected Soon

The NEET UG counselling process will begin soon, with MCC likely to release the schedule today or tomorrow, July 18, 2026. Candidates are advised to stay updated by regularly visiting the official website.

MCC begins the allotment process only after receiving the result and successful candidate information from NTA, and the latest MCC UG bulletin covers four online rounds for AIQ, deemed universities, AIIMS, JIPMER and specified central institutes.

Counselling rounds: Round 1 → Round 2 → Round 3 (Mop-Up) → Stray Vacancy Round.

Do this now, before the schedule drops:

1. Download and save your NEET UG 2026 scorecard PDF — you'll need the roll number and rank at registration.

2. Keep Class 10 & 12 marksheets, Category certificate, PwBD certificate, Domicile certificate, 8 passport photos, valid ID scanned and ready.

3. Note both portals: mcc.nic.in (AIQ) and your state's counselling site.

4. Build a choice-filling list of 40–60 colleges, ordered by genuine preference, not by prestige alone.

The scorecard carries the candidate's name, application number, roll number, subject-wise marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, total marks out of 720, percentile, All India Rank, category rank, and qualifying status.
