NEET UG 2026 Counselling: MCC Registration Date, Schedule & Full Process (Result Out, Dates Awaited)

NTA declared the NEET UG 2026 result on 16 July 2026 at neet.nta.nic.in, with 11.21 lakh of ~20 lakh candidates qualifying after the June 21 re-exam. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has not yet announced the counselling schedule — it is expected in the last week of July / early August 2026 on mcc.nic.in. Counselling runs in four rounds (Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up, Stray Vacancy), and qualifying does not auto-register you: a separate MCC registration is compulsory.

New Delhi | Updated: 18 July 2026 — The NEET UG 2026 counselling countdown has begun. The National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the NEET UG 2026 result on 16 July 2026 at neet.nta.nic.in, clearing the last hurdle before admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, B.Sc Nursing and BVSc courses can start. Attention now shifts to the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), which will run the counselling for 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats and specified institutions on mcc.nic.in.

Here is the one thing every aspirant is searching for right now, answered plainly: MCC has not yet released the NEET UG 2026 counselling schedule. Based on the current cycle, Round 1 registration is expected to open in the last week of July or the first half of August 2026, with the full process likely wrapping up by October 2026. This page is tracking the exact date and will be updated the moment MCC confirms it.

Why NEET UG 2026 counselling is running late this year

If it feels like this year's calendar has slipped, it has. The original NEET UG 2026 exam scheduled for 3 May 2026 was cancelled by the NTA amid paper-leak allegations and re-conducted as the re-exam on 21 June 2026 across 5,440 centres in 551 Indian cities and 14 international cities. That reset pushed the entire cycle back by roughly two months — which is why every MCC date below is a projection, not an announced date, until the official bulletin lands on mcc.nic.in.

Of the nearly 20 lakh candidates who appeared, 11.21 lakh qualified, with women making up over 58% of the qualifiers. Aryan Gupta of Punjab and Panshul Bansal of Haryana jointly topped the merit list with 715/720. A bigger prize awaits this batch too: the NMC has added 9,911 new MBBS seats, taking the national MBBS seat count to 1,36,939 for the 2026 admission cycle.

NEET UG 2026 counselling eligibility criteria

To join MCC counselling, a candidate must have qualified NEET UG 2026 by scoring at or above the prescribed qualifying percentile and must meet the academic eligibility — passing Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English, plus the minimum age requirement.

Indian citizens, NRIs, OCIs and PIOs can participate under the applicable seat categories. Two cautions that trip up candidates every year: qualifying NEET makes you eligible but does not guarantee a seat, and a separate MCC registration is mandatory — your NEET application does not carry over automatically.

How MCC conducts NEET UG 2026 counselling — the 4 rounds

MCC handles admissions for 15% AIQ seats in government medical colleges, plus AIIMS, JIPMER, central universities, deemed universities, ESIC and AFMS institutions. Counselling is conducted online in four rounds, each following the same sequence — seat matrix → registration & fee payment → choice filling & locking → seat allotment → reporting to the allotted college.

Round 1 — Register, pay the counselling fee, then fill and lock your preferred colleges and courses. Seats are allotted on NEET rank, reservation policy and the order of your choices.

Round 2 — For candidates who didn't get a seat in Round 1, or who want to try for a better one under the applicable rules. Note: AIQ seats left vacant after Round 2 are surrendered back to the states, which is why state Mop-Up rounds often have more seats than expected.

Mop-Up Round — Fills seats still vacant after Rounds 1 and 2.

Stray Vacancy Round — The final round for any leftover seats. This round carries the strictest penalty in the system: a candidate allotted a seat here must join within the deadline, or face debarment consequences.

The AIQ vs State counselling timing trick most guides skip

The AIQ (MCC) and state-quota (85%) calendars are deliberately staggered so that a candidate taking an AIQ seat vacates their state seat in time, and vice versa. The practical rule: AIQ Round 1 always opens before state counselling Round 1. If you're eligible for both, track the MCC dates and your state schedule simultaneously — missing the MCC window while waiting for your state's notification is one of the most common, avoidable mistakes each year.

Choice filling and documents required for NEET UG 2026 counselling

Choice filling decides everything. Order your colleges and courses by genuine preference, because allotment runs strictly down your locked list against merit and reservation — and lock before the deadline, as unlocked choices are auto-locked at cut-off.

Keep these documents ready for reporting and verification at the allotted institute:

  • NEET UG 2026 Admit Card

  • NEET UG 2026 Rank Card / Scorecard

  • MCC Provisional Allotment Letter

  • Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets and certificates

  • Valid government-issued photo ID

  • Category / reservation certificate (if applicable)

  • PwD / disability certificate (if applicable)

  • Passport-size photographs

Bottom line: the result is done — the admission is not. Keep checking mcc.nic.in for the official schedule, and complete every step within its own non-negotiable deadline.
