NEET UG Counselling 2026 Date: MCC Registration Not Open Yet at mcc.nic.in, Schedule Expected Next

New Delhi | 17 July 2026 — The two things the Medical Counselling Committee was waiting for are now done. What is still missing is the one document that actually starts the clock.

The National Testing Agency declared the NEET UG 2026 result on 16 July. The National Medical Commission notified the 2026-27 MBBS seat matrix on 14 July. Those are the two inputs MCC needs before it can open All India Quota counselling — the list of who qualified, and the list of seats it is allowed to allot.

Neither has produced a schedule yet. As of the morning of 17 July, the MCC undergraduate counselling page still carries the heading for the 2025 session. The Candidate Activity Board still shows "New Registration 2025." The most recent 2026-27 document on the page is a public notice on NRI candidature eligibility dated 27 May.

That means NEET UG counselling 2026 has not started, and no registration date has been announced.

Why "21 July" is circulating — and why you should ignore it

A specific date is being repeated across aggregator pages this week: 21 July. It is not an MCC announcement. It is last year's calendar.

MCC opened Round 1 registration for NEET UG 2025 counselling on 21 July 2025. Pages built months ago carried that date forward into a 2026 template and were never corrected after the exam calendar collapsed and rebuilt itself around the re-exam. The number has been repeated often enough that it now looks like news.

It is not. Until a notice appears on mcc.nic.in, there is no NEET UG counselling 2026 date.

What the precedent actually suggests

This is arithmetic on past cycles, not a prediction, and not a date. MCC has announced nothing.

2025: Exam 4 May → result 14 June → MCC schedule notice 12 July → Round 1 registration 21 July. Gap from result to schedule notice: about four weeks. Gap from notice to registration opening: nine days.

2024: MCC issued an advance intimation on 29 July 2024 saying counselling was expected to commence tentatively from 14 August, with registration possibly opening in the first week of August. That advance-notice pattern is worth knowing — MCC sometimes signals before it schedules.

2026 is different in one direction and one direction only: compression. NTA turned the 21 June re-exam around into a declared result in 25 days. Last year the same journey took 41. The agency said it re-engineered the process, running stages in parallel instead of sequentially and de-linking the OMR challenge window from the answer key release. It stated explicitly that the result was declared in time to keep the counselling and admission calendar on track.

Apply 2025's result-to-registration gap to a 16 July result and you land in the third week of August. Apply the compression NTA just demonstrated and it lands earlier. Both are inference. Neither is a date.

What is actually confirmed

The result. NEET UG 2026 was conducted on 21 June across 5,440 centres in 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad, in 13 languages, with candidates from all 36 states and union territories. Close to 20 lakh appeared. 11.21 lakh qualified. Scorecards are live at neet.nta.nic.in.

The toppers. Aryan Gupta of Punjab and Panshul Bansal of Haryana share All India Rank 1 with 715 out of 720. Nineteen candidates crossed 700; 138 crossed 690.

The gender split. More than 58 per cent of qualified candidates are women. Women also cleared at a marginally higher rate than men — 56.8 per cent against 55.1 per cent.

The cutoff. The General/EWS qualifying band is 715–213 at the 50th percentile, up from 686–144 last year. OBC, SC and ST sit at 212–177 at the 40th percentile, against 143–113 in 2025. UR/EWS-PwBD is 212–194. OBC-PwBD and SC-PwBD are 193–177; ST-PwBD is 191–178. Percentiles are unchanged. Only the marks moved.

The seat matrix. MARB's public notice of 14 July, based on approvals as of 13 July, puts 1,36,939 MBBS seats across 823 colleges for 2026-27 — 1,27,028 renewed plus 9,911 newly approved. This excludes Institutes of National Importance such as AIIMS and JIPMER, which sit outside this pool. Twenty-five new colleges account for 2,400 of the new seats: seven government colleges contributing 400, eighteen private colleges contributing 2,000. Karnataka leads with 15,395 seats; Uttar Pradesh follows with roughly 14,000. NMC has warned colleges that admitting beyond approved intake violates the NMC Act, 2019 and will attract penal action. The matrix remains subject to revision by the Appeal Committee, and any revision goes to MCC and state authorities.

The cutoff jump is the story nobody is explaining

A 69-mark rise in the General floor is not a footnote. It changes how you read every piece of advice you will get this month.

Higher qualifying marks across the board mean the cohort scored higher — the top mark itself rose from 686 to 715. When scores compress upward, candidates bunch. More people sit on the same mark. A single mark now separates more ranks than it did last year.

The practical consequence: last year's closing marks are useless to you. Last year's closing ranks are still directionally usable.

Every "you need 610 for a government seat" number floating around is calibrated to a different paper. Ignore it. Work in ranks, because seats are allotted against ranks, and the seat pool is the thing that decides how far the ranks stretch.

And the pool got bigger while the qualified list got smaller. Roughly 11.21 lakh qualified candidates are chasing about 1,36,939 approved MBBS seats outside the INIs — near eight qualified candidates per seat. Last year 12.36 lakh qualified against a smaller approved pool. Directionally, the arithmetic is slightly kinder this year. Slightly.

Five bodies allot seats. Confusing them costs rounds.

This is where candidates lose seats every single year, and it has nothing to do with marks.

MCC (mcc.nic.in) — 15% All India Quota MBBS/BDS seats in government colleges, plus 100% of seats in deemed universities, central universities (AMU, BHU, Delhi University, Jamia Millia Islamia's Faculty of Dentistry), ESIC colleges, AFMC Pune, AIIMS and JIPMER. Four online rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, Stray Vacancy.

State counselling authorities — the other 85%. Separate portal, separate registration, separate calendar, separate domicile rules. Tamil Nadu's DMER has already opened registration at tnmedicalselection.net.

AACCC — AYUSH Admissions Central Counselling Committee handles the All India Quota in BAMS, BUMS, BSMS and BHMS. Its own portal, its own calendar. An MCC registration does not carry over.

VCI — NEET result data also feeds the 15% quota for BVSc & AH.

B.Sc (H) Nursing — also allotted off NEET data through the MCC process.

NTA has been unusually direct about the boundary this year. Its position: its job is to conduct the exam, declare the result on eligibility criteria set by NMC, and issue the All India Rank. Merit lists, category lists, domicile determination and counselling belong to the admitting and state authorities. It has no role there. If you are emailing NTA about a seat, you are emailing the wrong body.

Registration and state counselling run staggered — deliberately

AIQ Round 1 opens before state Round 1. This is not an accident of scheduling. It is designed so a candidate who takes an AIQ seat vacates their state seat in time for it to be re-offered, and the reverse.

The consequence for you: if you are eligible for both, track both simultaneously. Waiting for your state's notification and missing the MCC window is the most common self-inflicted wound in this process. And AIQ seats left vacant after Round 2 are surrendered back to the states, which is why state mop-up rounds often carry more seats than candidates expect.

Fees: what it cost last year

MCC will confirm 2026 figures in its Information Bulletin when it is uploaded. As per the 2025 bulletin:

AIQ / Central Universities / AFMC / ESIC / AIIMS / JIPMER / B.Sc Nursing

Registration (non-refundable): ₹1,000 for UR/EWS; ₹500 for SC/ST/OBC/PwD

Security deposit (refundable): ₹10,000 for UR/EWS; ₹5,000 for SC/ST/OBC/PwD

Deemed Universities

• Registration (non-refundable): ₹5,000, all categories
• Security deposit (refundable): ₹2,00,000

Registering for both government and deemed seats does not mean paying twice. You pay the higher slab only — ₹5,000 plus ₹2,00,000.

The exit rules cost more than the fees

This is the least-read part of the bulletin and the most expensive.

Free exit is permitted only in specific rounds. Resigning a seat outside the permitted window can forfeit your security deposit. Walking away from a seat allotted in the Stray Vacancy Round is the harshest penalty in the system — it can mean forfeiture and debarment from the next NEET UG cycle.

Read the exit clause in the 2026 bulletin the day it appears. Not on the day you want to leave.

What to do this week

You cannot register. You can be ready to register the hour it opens.

1. Download your scorecard now and save multiple copies. You will need it at every verification desk.

2. Assemble documents: Class 10 and 12 marksheets and certificates, NEET admit card, scorecard, photo ID, passport photographs, and category certificate in the central format if you are claiming reservation.

3. Domicile paperwork. State quota turns on domicile, and states are stricter than MCC. Check your state's exact format now, not in the registration window.

4. NRI quota candidates — move today. MCC's 27 May notice sets eligibility per the Supreme Court's framework in Anshul Tomar vs State of M.P. If your sponsor is not your parent, you need embassy documents, relationship proof and legal papers. That window, when it opens, is short.

5. Bookmark three URLs and nothing else: neet.nta.nic.in, mcc.nic.in, your state portal.

6. Work out your rank band against last year's closing ranks. Not marks.

A warning worth repeating

NTA has cautioned candidates against fraudulent calls, messages and websites offering admission, seat blocking or score improvement. The agency does not contact candidates asking for money or credentials. Suspicious communication can be reported at neetug2026@nta.ac.in or 011-40759000.

Counselling season is when this industry wakes up. A cutoff that just jumped 69 marks means a large number of frightened candidates who think they are on the margin. They are the target market. If someone guarantees you a seat, they are selling you something MCC does not allow them to sell.

MCC does not allot seats manually. It does not allot by nomination. There is one online process, and it is on one website.
