UGC NET Answer Key 2026: Lakhs of candidates who appeared for the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test are refreshing the official portal every few hours, and for good reason. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to publish the UGC NET June 2026 provisional answer key at ugcnet.nta.nic.in at any time now, and it is the first document that lets an aspirant put a number on their performance.
The June 2026 session was conducted in Computer Based Test mode across multiple shifts between June 22 and June 30, 2026, at examination centres nationwide. One shift, however, did not run to schedule. A technical glitch at a centre in Jalandhar, Punjab, forced NTA to postpone the exam for the affected candidates. That shift was re-conducted on July 5, 2026.
That single date explains the wait. NTA does not ordinarily release a provisional answer key while any shift of a session remains pending, because the key, the response sheets and the question papers are processed as one consolidated set. With the Jalandhar re-exam now complete, the last operational hurdle has cleared — which is precisely why the UGC NET answer key 2026 download link is now considered imminent rather than distant.
When the link goes live, three documents will be available behind a single login:
The UGC NET provisional answer key 2026, listing question IDs and the correct option IDs for each shift and subject.
The candidate's recorded response sheet, showing exactly which option was marked during the CBT.
The question paper, matched to the candidate's shift and paper code.
Candidates need all three. The response sheet alone tells you what you marked; the answer key alone tells you what was right. Only together do they produce a reliable score estimate — and only the question paper allows a candidate to frame a defensible objection, since challenges must cite specific question IDs.
Open the official UGC NET website at ugcnet.nta.nic.in.
Click the link reading "UGC NET June 2026 Provisional Answer Key" or "Answer Key Challenge" on the homepage.
Log in using your Application Number and Password, or Application Number and Date of Birth, along with the security PIN displayed on screen.
The provisional answer key, recorded response sheet and question paper will open on the screen.
Download all three documents and save a copy. Take a printout of the response sheet if you intend to challenge anything.
If you spot a discrepancy, open the objection tab, select the disputed question, upload supporting evidence and pay the prescribed fee within the deadline.
The link is login-protected. There is no public PDF of subject-wise keys released ahead of the candidate login window, so treat any "direct PDF" circulating on messaging apps with caution.
The answer key challenge window historically stays open for a short period — typically around four days from the date the response sheet is published. Candidates should not treat it as a leisurely process.
Objections are accepted online only, through the official portal. Submissions by email, post, fax or in person are rejected outright.
A non-refundable processing fee of ₹200 per question applies. The fee is not returned even when the challenge is upheld.
Payment is accepted through debit card, credit card, net banking and UPI.
Supporting academic evidence — a scanned page from a standard textbook, a cited research source, a statutory document — carries far more weight than a written argument alone.
Objections received after the closing time are not entertained under any circumstance.
A challenge succeeds on evidence, not on conviction. Subject experts review every submission, and where an objection is found valid, the answer is corrected for every candidate who attempted that question — not only for the person who raised it. If a question is found to have no correct option, or more than one, NTA typically awards full marks to all candidates who attempted it, as per its standard practice.
The UGC NET exam pattern is straightforward, which makes self-scoring accurate.
Paper 1: 50 questions, 100 marks — teaching aptitude, research aptitude, reasoning, data interpretation, communication, environment and higher education system.
Paper 2: 100 questions, 200 marks — the candidate's chosen subject.
Total: 150 questions, 300 marks, three hours, both papers in a single sitting with no break.
Each correct answer carries 2 marks.
There is no negative marking. A wrong answer and an unattempted question both score zero.
Score = (Total correct answers) × 2
A candidate with 108 correct answers across both papers scores 216 out of 300. Because nothing is deducted for errors, the arithmetic needs no adjustment — a rare mercy in Indian competitive exams, and the reason a careful response-sheet check gives a near-exact preview of the official score.
To qualify, a candidate must clear the aggregate of both papers taken together:
General / Unreserved: 40 per cent aggregate
OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, EWS and Third Gender: 35 per cent aggregate
Qualifying, however, is only the entry threshold. The UGC NET cut off 2026 is set separately for each of the three categories of qualification — Junior Research Fellowship along with Assistant Professor eligibility and Ph.D. admission; Assistant Professor eligibility along with Ph.D. admission; and Ph.D. admission only. Cut-offs are determined by the top percentile of candidates who appear in each subject and category, which means a high raw score never guarantees a JRF slot on its own.
Once the challenge window shuts, a panel of subject experts examines every objection received. Where a challenge is upheld, the provisional key is amended and the UGC NET final answer key 2026 is published. This final key is binding. It cannot be challenged, and no further representations are accepted against it.
The UGC NET June 2026 result is then computed strictly on the final key. Candidates will download their scorecards from the official portal using the same login credentials. The scorecard carries the raw score, the percentile, and the qualification status.
NTA has not announced an official date for the declaration of the result. Based on the sequence NTA follows — provisional key, objection window, expert review, final key, result — candidates should expect the complete cycle to conclude over the weeks following the answer key release, with the exact schedule confirmed only through official notice.
Keep the application number and date of birth accessible; the login window will not accept a forgotten credential gracefully during a traffic surge. Bookmark ugcnet.nta.nic.in and check it directly rather than relying on forwarded links. When the key appears, download all three documents in the first hour — server load builds sharply through the day. And do not pay ₹200 on a hunch. Find the source, screenshot it, and only then click submit.
Candidates are advised to rely exclusively on the official UGC NET portal, ugcnet.nta.nic.in, and the NTA website, nta.ac.in, for the answer key, objection window and result announcement. Unofficial or memory-based answer keys circulating online are not issued by NTA and should not be used to make decisions.
