The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is conducting the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (I), 2026 on April 12, 2026. As one of the most prestigious defense entrance exams in India, strict adherence to the Commission's guidelines is mandatory for all aspirants. Failure to follow these protocols can lead to immediate disqualification.
Below is the exhaustive checklist of do’s and don’ts, official reporting times, and document requirements for the NDA 1 2026 exam.
The written examination consists of two papers held in separate sessions. Candidates must note that entry will be denied once the gates are closed, exactly 10 minutes before the commencement of each session.
| Paper | Subject | Exam Timing | Entry Gate Closes |
| Paper 1 | Mathematics | 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM | 09:50 AM |
| Paper 2 | General Ability Test (GAT) | 02:00 PM – 04:30 PM | 01:50 PM |
Important Note: It is highly recommended to reach the center at least 60 minutes early to complete mandatory frisking and biometric verification.
You will not be permitted to enter the exam venue without the following items:
Printed e-Admit Card: Ensure the printout is clear. Digital copies on mobile phones or tablets are not acceptable.
Original Photo ID: Carry the same ID card (Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID, Passport, or Driving License) that was specified in your application form.
Passport-size Photographs: If the photograph on your admit card is blurred or missing, carry two identical photographs (one for each session) along with an undertaking.
Black Ballpoint Pen: Use only a black ballpoint pen for marking the OMR sheet and signing the attendance list. Answers marked with pencils or ink pens will not be evaluated.
Verify Test Booklet: Immediately check the booklet for any unprinted or torn pages. If any issue is found, request an immediate replacement.
Maintain Discipline: Follow all instructions from the invigilator. Any misbehavior or harassment of staff may lead to a permanent ban from all future UPSC examinations.
Prohibited Items: Do not bring mobile phones, smartwatches, calculators, Bluetooth devices, or any electronic gadgets. Even devices that are "switched off" are strictly prohibited.
No Valuables: UPSC does not provide official arrangements for the safe-keeping of bags or mobile phones. Leave these items at home or with a guardian.
OMR Protection: Do not fold, tear, or put stray marks on the OMR sheet. Do not write anything on the back of the sheet.
While UPSC does not mandate a formal uniform, candidates are advised to follow a simple dress code to speed up security checks:
Clothing: Wear light, comfortable clothes such as T-shirts or simple shirts and trousers. Avoid garments with large buttons or excessive pockets.
Footwear: Simple sandals or slippers are recommended. Avoid thick-soled boots or heavy shoes.
Accessories: Avoid wearing ornaments, metallic items, or any type of wristwatch (analog or digital).
Q1: What is the official reporting time for NDA 1 2026? Candidates should report to the center early. Entry gates close strictly at 9:50 AM for the Mathematics paper and 1:50 PM for the GAT paper.
Q2: Can I use a pencil for rough work on the OMR sheet? No. Rough work must only be done in the designated space provided in the Test Booklet. Using a pencil or creating stray marks on the OMR sheet can lead to rejection by the scanner.
Q3: Is there negative marking in the NDA 1 exam? Yes. For every incorrect answer, one-third (1/3rd) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as a penalty.
Q4: Are wristwatches allowed inside the exam hall? No. UPSC has strictly banned all types of watches, including simple analog watches, digital watches, and smartwatches. Time will be tracked via wall clocks or periodic announcements.
Q5: What should I do if there is an error in my Admit Card? If there is any discrepancy in your name, roll number, or photo, you must notify the UPSC immediately via email and carry relevant supporting documents to the exam center.
