IMOTC (International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp) is the final selection stage for students who aspire to represent India at the International Mathematical Olympiads (IMO).
The IMOTC is organized by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) and is considered an important stage in India's Olympiad program for Mathematics aspirants.
Students who perform well in the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad Examinations (INO) are invited to appear for the IMOTC Stage.
The camp is designed to prepare top students from the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO)
IMOTC gathers the most talented students from around the nation and offers them advanced training, problem-solving experiences, and guidance from experts.
The International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp not only equips students for international competitions but also cultivates a profound passion for mathematics inquiry.
The primary goal of IMOTC is to provide intensive training to students who have scored high in the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO).
This IMOTC training focuses on enhancing their mathematical skills and problem-solving abilities to prepare them for the IMO.
The top students from the INMO (approximately 65) are invited for the fourth stage, the International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC) held at HBCSE.
At IMOTC camp, orientation is provided to students for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). Several selection tests are held during this camp to develop conceptual foundations and problem-solving skills.
On the basis of performance in these tests, 6 students are selected to represent India at the IMO. Resource persons from different institutions across the country are invited to the training camps
The IMOTC 2025 training camp is organized by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) in Chennai Mathematical Institute, Chennai from 8th to 31st May 2025.
Here we have discussed the International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp 2025 Schedule and Location. Students are advised to visit the HBCSE official website secure.hbcse.tifr.res.in on a regular basis for all the updates.

The International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC) is the fourth stage in the selection process for International Maths Olympiad
IOQM: The Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics is the first stage for Indian students interested in competing in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). The IOQM exam is three hours in length and consists of 30 questions with integer answers ranging from 00-99268.
RMO: Students who pass the IOQM advance to the Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO).
INMO: The Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) is the next stage after the RMO. This stage selects the best students for advanced training.
IMOTC: Students who excel in the INMO are invited to the International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC)
The leading students from the INMO (around 35 in each subject) are invited for the fourth stage, the International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC) is conducted at HBCSE from 8th to 31st May 2025.
During IMOTC, several selection tests are conducted to assess students' problem-solving skills and conceptual understanding. Students work on IMO-level problems to enhance their problem-solving skills and strategies for tackling complex problems.
Advanced Lectures and Training: Students receive lectures from distinguished professors and engage in innovative experiments to deepen their understanding of Mathematical concepts and procedures.
Theory and experimental sessions: The camps include several theoretical and experimental/observational tests. Performance in these tests determines which students will represent India at International Mathematical Olympiads.
Mock tests and rigorous assessments to evaluate student performance.
Collaborative learning opportunities with India's top young minds.
The IMOTC is an intensive 1 month program where students engage in high-level theoretical and experimental sessions. The camp includes:
Tests and Evaluations: During IMOTC, several selection tests are conducted to assess students' problem-solving skills and conceptual understanding.
Criteria for Selection: The selection of the six-member team to represent India at the IMO is based on performance in mock tests, consistency in problem-solving, and overall participation during the camp.
Final Selection: At the end of IMOTC, the top six students are chosen to form the Indian team for the IMO.
Development of Critical Thinking: IMO problems require deep analysis and creative solutions, enhancing critical thinking skills that are applicable beyond mathematics.
Improved Logical Reasoning: Students learn to approach problems from multiple angles, improving their logical reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
Deeper Understanding of Concepts: Olympiads challenge students with complex problems that require a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts like number theory, geometry, and algebra.
Exposure to Advanced Topics: Students are introduced to topics not usually covered in school curricula, such as graph theory and inequalities.
Intrinsic Motivation: Participating in Olympiads kindles a genuine passion for mathematics, encouraging students to explore beyond the standard curriculum.
Lifelong Interest: Olympiads foster a lifelong interest in mathematics, potentially leading to careers in academia, research, engineering, and data science.
International Recognition: Participants gain global recognition and prestige, opening doors to international academic and research opportunities.
Cultural Exchange: Students interact with peers from different countries, fostering cultural understanding and collaboration.
Scholarships and Awards: High-performing students may receive scholarships and awards, making higher education more accessible.
Admission to Top Universities: Participation in Olympiads can enhance a student's academic profile, particularly when applying to top universities worldwide.
Boosted Confidence and Self-Esteem: Overcoming complex challenges in Olympiads bolsters students' self-confidence and self-esteem.
Competitive Spirit: Preparing for Olympiads instills a healthy competitive spirit, teaching students to handle pressure and work towards long-term goals
Final Team Selection: During the camp, students undergo multiple tests to identify the top six candidates. These tests evaluate depth of understanding, creativity, and consistency under pressure
Pre-Departure Camp (PDC): The selected team undergoes an intensive 8-10 day training at HBCSE before departing for the IMO.
International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO): A two-day competition with six problems, each worth up to 7 points. The selected team of six students represents India at the IMO, accompanied by four teachers or mentors.
Bringing Glory to India: Many Indian students have won gold, silver, and bronze medals in international competitions, showcasing India's talent on the global stage.
