NSEC Cut Off 2026: Qualifying Marks, MAS and MI

The NSEC Cut Off 2026 will determine which candidates qualify for the next stage of the Chemistry Olympiad. The National Standard Examination in Chemistry (NSEC) is the first-stage examination conducted by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT).

How Is the NSEC Cut Off Calculated?

The NSEC qualifying criteria are not based on a simple fixed percentage. The Minimum Admissible Score (MAS) is calculated as 50% of the average of the top 10 scores, rounded down to the nearest integer.

The Merit Index (MI) is calculated as 80% of the average of the top 10 scores, also rounded down to the nearest integer.

Candidates who score equal to or above the MI automatically qualify for the INChO Stage II examination, subject to the eligibility conditions.

NSEC Qualifying Marks 2026

The exact NSEC qualifying marks for 2026 will be known only after the examination and calculation of the MAS and MI. Therefore, candidates should not consider any unofficial expected cut-off as the final qualifying score.

What Happens After the NSEC Cut Off?

Candidates who qualify according to the applicable NSEC selection criteria are shortlisted for the Indian National Chemistry Olympiad (INChO). The complete list of shortlisted students is published through the official IAPT and HBCSE websites.

For the 2026–27 cycle, the INChO is scheduled for January 30, 2027, from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM.

Students shortlisted for INChO must complete the required registration on the HBCSE website to obtain their admit cards. Registration is mandatory for appearing in the Stage II examination.
