NSEP Full Form 

NSEP stands for "National Standard Examination in Physics". It was first conducted in 1987 by IAPT and serves as the initial stage for selecting students for the Indian and International Physics Olympiad. NSEP is held nationwide at a regional level and is offered in English, Hindi, and other Indian languages. 

Stages of After NSEP 2026

NSEP serves as the first stage aims to identify and nurture young talent in physics. the National Standard Examination, is entirely under the responsibility of the Physics Teachers' Association of India. All other stages are organized by HBCSE. NSEP is an essential qualification to join INPhO.

NSEP 2026 Eligibility 

The first step before registering for NSEP 2026 is to check your exam eligibility. Here are the complete eligibility requirements for NSEP Olympiad:

  • Candidate must possess an Indian passport.
  • Applicants must be born between July 1, 2006 and June 30, 2011, both days inclusive.
  • Applicant must be living and studying in India on or before 30.11.2022 OR Applicant must be studying in an Indian school system on or before 30.11.2022
  • Applicant must not have completed (or must complete) Class 12- board exam before 30.11.2026.
  • The applicant must not have started (or plan to start) studies at a university or similar educational institution before June 1, 2026.
  • Candidate must not appear in NSEJS 2026.

The online registration process for the National Standard Examination in Physics (NSEP) 2026 is expected to begin in August 2026 at the official website of the Indian Association of Physics Teachers. NSEP 2026 Application Fee 

Students have to pay a registration fee of Rs.200 to complete the online registration process of NSEP 2026.
This is a one-time fee and students who progress to the next stage and progress further do not have to pay until the final stage, the International Physics Olympiad. The NSEP 2026 registration fees are non-refundable once paid.

Students can register for NSEP examination 2026 through selected centres. IAPT also accepts direct student registration. When registering through the center, the applicant must pay the NSEP fee to the responsibility center. In case of direct registration, students can pay the NSEP registration fee online. NSEP Scholarship 2026

NSEP 2026 exam is the gateway for physics lovers to get NSE Scholarship 2026 for undergraduate studies. Every year only 10 students are provided the NSEP Scholarship. There are some qualifications and guidelines for NSEP scholarship. You must attempt the NSEP exam conducted by IAPT. The NSEP scholarship is not an immediate benefit, but is offered during the student's undergraduate studies.

This NSEP scholarship is only useful to those students who are willing to study, for example, an undergraduate degree in physics - Astrophysics or Theoretical physics. No candidate who has previously represented India in International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) or Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) will be eligible to compete in NSEP.

NSEP Exam Benefits and Perks

  • Gold medals: Top 35 candidates will receive a gold medal.
  • Direct Enrollment: After NSEP gold medalists can appear for direct interview to join Atomic Energy Department. They are exempt from the written test.
  • Scholarship: Candidates opting for B.Sc. in Physics after NSEP are eligible for Scholarship (Maximum 10). This system was introduced to encourage students to take up physics as a career option.
  • Merit Certificates: The top 1% of students at the national level are awarded with these special merits and letters.
