Asian Physics Olympiad 2026: The Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) is an annual competition for high school students in Asia and Oceania. It is one of the international science Olympiads. It was initiated in 2000 by Indonesia. APhO typically occurs in late April or early May, with over twenty countries and regions participating in the competition since its inception. The Asian Physics Olympiad exam will be held from May 17 to May 25, 2026.
Its conducting process is closely similar to the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), except that each participating country may send a maximum of eight contestants instead of five as in the IPhO. The Asian Physics Olympiad 2026 has significantly enhanced the quality of physics education in the Asian region, while also offering an additional opportunity and creating a new avenue for bright young students to broaden their perspectives on the outside world.
Asian Physics Olympiad 2026
The Asian Physics Olympiad Programme will follow a four stage process. These stages are:
I. National Standard Examinations in Physics (NSEP).
II. Indian National Olympiads in Physics (INPhO).
III. Pre - Departure Training camps (PDTs) in physics.
IV. Participation in the Asian Physics Olympiads (APhO).
Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) and Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) will be responsible for conducting the four stages of the Asian Physics Olympiad 2026. The 1st, and 4th stages will be conducted by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) and Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) will organise the 2nd and 3rd stage.
Asian Physics Olympiad 2026 Overview
Students interested in Asian Physics Olympiad 2026 are advised to carefully review the eligibility requirements for the APhO 2026 to avoid disqualification at any point. For participation in the APhO exam, the scores of various students are determined by summing 40% of the NSEP score and 60% of the INPhO score. Out of a List of 50 top students, 8 students will be chosen to take part in APhO.

If APhO registration is not finalized within the stipulated time, the deadline may be extended by coordinating with the APhO committee.
Asian Physics Olympiad Eligibility
- Candidates should have qualified the INPhO and Pre - Departure Training camps (PDTs) in physics
- A participant must be studying in classes 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th.
- Students who have passed class 12th are not eligible to enroll for
- The student must not attain the age of 20 years on June 30th of the year.
APhO 2026 Syllabus
The primary objective of the APhO exam is to evaluate the students' understanding of Physics, including their critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, proper methods of presentation and analysis, along with practical skills in both theoretical and experimental contexts, which is why the exam is structured into two sections: the theoretical section and the practical section.
