The Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) conducts the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) to assess students' mathematical understanding and problem-solving abilities. Students from Classes 1 to 12 can participate in this examination through their respective schools.
Practising with sample papers helps students understand the examination pattern, question formats, and difficulty level. It also gives them an idea of the different sections included in the question paper and the marking scheme. SOF IMO Sample Papers are available class-wise, allowing students to practise questions according to their current academic level.
Students can access the official sample and model test paper pages for their respective classes through the links below. The SOF IMO Level 1 examination for the 2026-27 session will be conducted on 23 October, 26 November, and 10 December 2026. Students should check their school's selected examination date before appearing for the test.
SOF provides separate sample and model test paper pages for students from Class 1 to Class 12. Students can select their respective class to access the available question papers. The following table contains direct links to the official SOF website.

Students do not have to appear on all three dates. The school selects one SOF IMO Exam Date from the schedule announced by SOF. Therefore, students should confirm their actual examination date with their respective schools.
The SOF IMO examination pattern differs across class groups. The Level 1 examination consists of four sections, covering logical reasoning, mathematical reasoning, everyday mathematics and the Achievers Section. For Classes 11 and 12, the mathematical reasoning section is replaced with Mathematical Reasoning/Applied Mathematics.
The examination is conducted for 60 minutes. The following tables explain the class-wise question distribution and marking scheme.

The examination consists of objective-type multiple-choice questions. Students should refer to the pattern applicable to their class while practising.
The SOF IMO syllabus is based on the respective class curriculum. It covers mathematical concepts along with logical reasoning and higher-order thinking questions.
The examination includes different sections according to the student's class. Logical Reasoning assesses students' ability to understand patterns and solve reasoning-based questions. Mathematical Reasoning covers concepts from the school Mathematics curriculum, while Everyday Mathematics focuses on applying mathematical knowledge. The Achievers Section includes higher-order thinking questions.
Practising model papers gives students an opportunity to become familiar with the examination format. It also helps them understand how mathematical concepts are tested in the Olympiad.
The following are some benefits of solving sample papers:
Understand the Question Format: Students become familiar with the types of objective questions included in the IMO examination and the different sections.
Improve Problem-Solving Skills: Regular practice helps students apply mathematical concepts and develop their problem-solving abilities.
Understand the Difficulty Level: Sample papers give students an idea of the question complexity and the level of mathematical understanding required.
Improve Time Management: Solving papers within the prescribed examination duration helps students practise managing their time across different sections.
Identify Weak Areas: Students can review their incorrect answers and identify the mathematical topics that require additional practice.
Build Examination Confidence: Familiarity with the question format and examination pattern helps students feel more prepared for the actual test.
Students and parents can follow these steps to access the official sample papers for the IMO examination:
Visit the official Science Olympiad Foundation website.
Navigate to the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) section.
Select the respective class from Class 1 to Class 12.
Open the Sample Model Test Papers section.
Check the available sample papers for the selected class.
Click the download option if a PDF download is available on the official page.
Students should ensure that they select the sample paper corresponding to their current class before beginning their practice.
Regular practice and revision can help students become familiar with the SOF IMO examination pattern and prepare for the Level 1 examination.
