For many NEET aspirants, preparation revolves around NCERT, lectures, revision, and question practice. But Aadhya Rai’s journey offers another perspective: preparing for the National Standard Examination in Biology (NSEB) can build analytical thinking that may benefit NEET preparation across subjects.
Her experience with Olympiad preparation, PW’s recorded lectures, and consistent question practice shows how an additional academic challenge can complement NEET preparation.
Aadhya’s preparation did not start with a perfect study routine. She initially struggled with study hours and found Physics difficult, even in easier chapters. Recognising that her preparation needed more consistency became her first major turning point.
As she became more consistent, she specifically increased her study hours and gradually overcame her difficulty with Physics.
This experience established an important part of Aadhya’s preparation: identifying a weakness and working on it consistently rather than letting early performance affect her confidence.
While preparing for NEET, Aadhya also prepared for NSEB in Class 12 and successfully cleared it. For her, the biggest benefit was not simply additional Biology knowledge but the analytical thinking developed through question practice.
She explained that repeatedly thinking through Olympiad-level questions changed the way she approached problems. This benefit, according to her experience, was not restricted to Biology.
This is what makes NSEB particularly relevant for NEET aspirants. While the level and nature of questions can differ, the habit of analysing information and applying concepts can strengthen overall problem-solving ability.
Aadhya continued attending her regular coaching for Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Alongside that, she used online Physics lectures and NSEB recorded lectures to supplement her preparation.
The recorded NSEB content gave her additional exposure to conceptual and analytical Biology. She also found substantial overlap between NSEB and NEET Biology topics.
For the additional Animal Behaviour portion, Aadhya used a reference book, keeping her Olympiad preparation focused while continuing her NEET studies.
Aadhya believes NSEB can be particularly useful for students in Classes 9 and 10, when the academic load may be comparatively manageable. However, she also recognises that balancing Olympiad preparation with school can become difficult.
Her solution is to focus on effective question practice when time is limited.
She further explains:
For Aadhya, NSEB was therefore not simply an additional exam. It became a way to practise thinking, apply theoretical knowledge, and approach questions more analytically.
Aadhya Rai’s journey demonstrates why NSEB can be a game-changer for NEET aspirants when managed alongside regular preparation. Her experience shows that Olympiad preparation does not necessarily have to compete with NEET studies; with the right balance, analytical question practice can complement them.
For aspirants considering NSEB, her story offers a practical takeaway: build strong fundamentals, practise questions consistently, and use Olympiad preparation to develop the habit of thinking beyond memorisation.
