Sayak Das from Howrah, West Bengal, secured AIR 332 in NIPER JEE 2026. He is pursuing B.Pharm in his final year from an institute in Howrah and had already qualified GATE in 2025.
Unlike many candidates, Sayak did not qualify GPAT. However, his GATE preparation had already given him a strong base in aptitude and other non-pharma areas. After the GPAT result, he decided to focus completely on NIPER JEE and prepared with renewed determination.
After the GPAT result, Sayak faced disappointment but decided not to let it affect his next target. He had already qualified GATE, which gave him some preparation experience in the non-pharma section, and he decided to use that foundation for NIPER JEE.
Talking about that phase, Sayak said,
“After GPAT bahut bura laga tha, mera selection nahi hua. Uske baad maine thaan liya ki NIPER ke liye jaunga, achhi poori apni interest ke saath jaan laga kar aur ekdum achhe se preparation karke.”
This decision helped him shift his focus towards NIPER JEE instead of spending too much time thinking about the GPAT result.
The NIPER JEE pattern included a significant non-pharma component, but Sayak already had experience with aptitude and related subjects because of his GATE preparation. This became an advantage during his NIPER JEE preparation.
He explained,
“Actually main batana chahta hoon, I am not GPAT qualified. I am GATE qualified actually. Toh mere paas non-pharma ka command pehle se tha.”
Sayak had prepared for the GATE XL and Life Sciences examinations in 2025. He explained that the preparation involved Chemistry and Aptitude along with selected subjects such as Biochemistry and Microbiology.
He said,
“GATE mein jo aptitude wagarah hai, uske liye bahut practice karna padta tha GATE mein baithne ke liye, toh us waqt se mera practice tha non-pharma mein.”
Sayak used the guidance available through PW Pharma while preparing for NIPER JEE. He focused on important pharma subjects and also gave attention to interdisciplinary areas such as Medical Devices and Biotechnology. His preparation involved prioritising subjects based on their importance in the exam.
“Pharmaceutics jo hamara main subject hai… Chemistry bahut important hai organic chemistry matlab bahut hi bahut jyada important hai aur Microbiology Biochemistry ye sab bhi thoda bahut padhna chahiye.”
This subject-wise approach helped Sayak focus his revision on important areas instead of treating every topic in the same way.
Sayak did not follow a fixed number of study hours. Instead, he focused on studying properly whenever he had time, especially on days when he did not have college.
He said,
“Daily hours toh nahi gine, lekin achhi tarah padhta tha. Jo din college nahi jaana tha, lagbhag poora din hi kat jaata tha NIPER ke.”
He also practised more than 150 questions during his preparation.
“Haan ma'am, lagbhag 150 plus questions attempt kiye the.”
This question practice helped him become more comfortable with the type of questions he could face in the examination.
For the pharma section, Sayak identified important subjects that aspirants should cover carefully. He particularly highlighted Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Microbiology and Biochemistry.
He said,
“Pharma ke liye main bolna chahta hoon ki Pharmaceutics jo hamara main subject hai, is baar Pharmacology ke questions bahut kam aaye the, lekin Pharmacology bhi important hai.”
He further added,
“Chemistry bahut important hai, Organic Chemistry matlab bahut hi bahut zyada important hai aur Microbiology, Biochemistry ye sab bhi thoda bahut, Biotechnology ye bhi thoda bahut padhna chahiye bachchon ko.”
Sayak also pointed out that some interdisciplinary questions appeared in the examination, including areas related to medical devices and biotechnology. His preparation therefore was not limited only to the most familiar pharmacy topics.
For students preparing for the non-pharma section, Sayak recommended strengthening basic Mathematics and English. He suggested starting with familiar concepts and practising common numerical areas.
He advised,
“Non-pharma main bolunga ki Class 10th ka Maths achhe se kar lo. Uska jo formulas hai, Profit and Loss hai, jo-jo questions aate hain Maths ka, woh kar lo.”
For English, he recommended focusing on vocabulary and grammar.
“English ka synonym-antonym pe zyada dhyaan do aur grammatics pe bhi zyada dhyaan dena padega.”
According to Sayak, consistent preparation of these areas can make the non-pharma section manageable.
Sayak had started preparing for GATE from his fifth semester. He appeared for GATE XL and Life Sciences in 2025 and qualified the examination. This preparation helped him build a foundation in aptitude, Chemistry, Biochemistry and Microbiology.
He explained,
“GATE ke liye main fifth semester shuru se.”
He also highlighted the relevance of Biochemistry and Microbiology for pharmacy students preparing for GATE.
“Pharmacy ke liye Biochemistry and Microbiology is the most closest to study. Microbiology aur Biochemistry is important to study for GATE.”
This preparation later supported his confidence in the non-pharma part of NIPER JEE.
Sayak's consistent preparation eventually resulted in AIR 332 in NIPER JEE 2026. His family and friends were happy with his result, making the achievement especially meaningful after his earlier disappointment with GPAT.
When asked about his reaction after seeing the result, Sayak said,
“Bahut hi achha feel ho raha hai, because bahut dinon baad kuch aisa achha hua hai mere saath.”
His mother, brother and friends also celebrated his achievement. He said,
“Bahut khush hai. Meri maa bhi mujhe bahut shabashi di, mere bhai rehta hai mere saath woh bhi bahut khush hai aur meri friends bhi bahut congratulations kiye mujhe.”
After securing AIR 332, Sayak is interested in pursuing Pharmaceutics for his postgraduate studies. He is considering NIPER Hyderabad and NIPER Ahmedabad and is also open to NIPER Mohali.
He said,
“Mera graduation post-graduation karne, Pharmaceutics branch mein bahut mera preference hai. Main NIPER Hyderabad aur Ahmedabad ko dekh raha hoon aur agar Mohali mein milega toh phir bhi main jaana chahta hoon.”
He also shared his broader approach towards the available options.
“Main sab mein hi comfortable hoon actually.”
Sayak's next step is to participate in counselling and decide his final institute and branch based on the available options.
Sayak Das's NIPER JEE 2026 journey reflects how preparation from one competitive examination can be carried forward into another. After missing GPAT, he redirected his focus towards NIPER JEE, used his GATE-based non-pharma preparation, revised core pharmacy subjects and practised questions before securing AIR 332.
His experience also highlights the importance of identifying the areas that need attention and using the available preparation time accordingly.
