Three numbers are connected by a mathematical rule. You need to find the option that follows the same rule.
For example:
7, 150, 23
Here, the relationship is:
(7 + 23) × 5 = 150
So, check the given options and find the group that follows the same calculation.
Coding-decoding questions use a rule to change letters into a code. The letters may be moved forward or backward by different numbers.
For example, suppose D H L R W follows a +1, +2, +3, +4, +5 rule from right to left:
W + 1 = X
R + 2 = T
L + 3 = O
H + 4 = L
D + 5 = I
So, the code is I L O T X.
Some series questions contain numbers, letters, and digits together. In these questions, check each part separately.
For example:
3D3, 5S5, 9R7, 12P8, 23P11
First, check the first numbers. They may follow a pattern such as +2, +4, +6, +8.
Next, check the letters. They may move backward by one letter, such as:
T, S, R, Q, P
Finally, check the last numbers. They may increase by 2:
3, 5, 7, 9, 11
The term that breaks the pattern can be the incorrect term.
Candidates get the direction based questions in the exam.
For example, if the North-South movement becomes 0 metres and the East-West movement becomes 400 metres East, the final position is 400 metres East from the starting point.
Venn diagrams use circles, squares, triangles, or rectangles to show different groups. The overlapping parts show where two or more conditions are true.
For example, suppose the question asks you to find people who are:
Uneducated
Not urban
Honest
Hardworking
Syllogism questions give statements and ask you to find the correct conclusion.
For example:
All cups are bottles.

Cups → Bottles → Pens
Therefore:

All bottles are cups: False

Some pens are bottles: True
Always connect the statements step by step before checking the conclusions.
Linear arrangement questions ask you to arrange people in a straight line using the given clues.
Suppose six people — A, K, G, D, H and Y — are sitting in a line facing North.
The clues give the following positions:
K is at the left end.
Y is third to the right of K.
Y is second to the left of A.
G is immediately to the left of A.
D and H sit next to each other.
H is third to the left of G.
D is second to the left of G.
The final arrangement is:
K H D Y G A
Therefore, the person sitting immediately to the right of K is H.
For example:
A vowel is changed to the next letter (+1).
A consonant is changed to the previous letter (-1).
Take the word SURPRISING.
Applying the rules gives:
S → R
U → V
R → Q
P → O
R → Q
I → J
S → R
I → J
N → M
G → F
The new letters are:
R V Q O Q J R J M F
Here, R, Q and J each appear twice.
So, the answer is three.
Analogy questions compare two things based on a common relationship.
For example:
Giraffe : Height :: Tiger : ?
A giraffe is well known for its height. In the same way, a tiger is well known for its stripes.
Therefore, the answer is Stripes.
Some coding-decoding questions use more than one rule.
For example, the rules may be:
The second letter becomes the first letter.
The first letter becomes the second letter.
The third letter is changed to its opposite letter in the alphabet.
Example:
RYG → YRT
Y, the second letter, becomes the first letter.
R, the first letter, becomes the second letter.
G changes to T, its opposite letter.
Now apply the same rule to ASI:
S becomes the first letter.
A becomes the second letter.
I changes to R.
So, the code is SAR.
Reasoning questions in the RRB Group D exam can be solved easily with regular practice and good time management. Focus on easy questions first, understand the pattern, and avoid spending too much time on one question.
