Important Medical Rules Every Candidate Should Know

Candidates who qualify the selection process must undergo a medical examination to ensure they meet the prescribed medical standards for their respective posts. Keeping the following rules in mind will help you avoid any issues during the recruitment process.

  • The medical examination is conducted after Document Verification (DV) as part of the final selection process.

  • Candidates must meet the prescribed medical standard for the post they have been allotted.

  • Candidates declared medically unfit for the allotted post will not be considered for an alternative appointment.

  • Vision testing is an important part of the Railway medical examination and must meet the required standards for the respective medical category.

  • The final decision regarding medical fitness rests with the Railway Medical Authorities, whose assessment is final for recruitment purposes.

Is LASIK Surgery Allowed for RRB Technician?

Whether LASIK surgery is permitted depends on the medical standard prescribed for the post. Candidates should carefully check the medical requirements before applying.

  • For posts with the A3 Medical Standard: LASIK surgery is not permitted.

  • For other medical standards (B1, B2, and C1): The official notification does not specifically mention any restriction on candidates who have undergone LASIK surgery.

  • Candidates should still ensure they meet the prescribed visual acuity and other medical requirements for their respective medical category during the Railway medical examination.

What Happens If You Fail the Medical Examination?

Candidates who do not meet the prescribed medical standards are generally considered medically unfit for the allotted post. However, the RRB provides certain provisions in specific situations.

  • Candidates declared medically unfit may be given one opportunity to appeal against the medical decision by paying the prescribed appeal fee.

  • If the appeal is accepted, the candidate will undergo a re-medical examination by the designated Railway Medical Authority.

  • The decision of the re-medical examination is final and binding, and no further appeal is entertained.

  • If a candidate is found medically unfit for the allotted post but meets the medical standard of a lower preferred post, they may be considered for that post, subject to merit, preference, and availability of vacancies.

  • Candidates allotted a lower preferred post on medical grounds will not be eligible to file another medical appeal regarding that allotment.

Note: Candidates should carefully review the medical standards for all preferred posts before submitting their application to avoid disqualification during the final medical examination.
