Qualifying the RRB Technician written examination is only one step in the recruitment process. Candidates must also satisfy the prescribed RRB Technician Physical Requirements 2026, which primarily include medical fitness and vision standards set by the Railway Administration.
These medical examinations ensure that candidates are physically capable of performing technical duties safely and efficiently. Since failing to meet the required standards may lead to disqualification, aspirants should understand the medical criteria, vision requirements, and eligibility conditions before applying.
The Railway Recruitment Board prescribes different medical standards depending on the nature of the Technician post. Every selected candidate must undergo a medical examination conducted by the Railway Administration before appointment.
Candidates should note the following:
Medical standards vary according to the post.
Overall physical fitness and prescribed vision standards are mandatory.
Candidates who have undergone LASIK or other refractive eye surgery are not eligible for posts requiring the A3 medical standard.
Medical standards for Ex-Servicemen and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) are governed by the provisions of the Indian Railway Medical Manual (IRMM), Volume I.
Candidates declared medically unfit for their chosen post will not automatically be considered for another post. However, subject to Railway rules, they may be allotted a lower-preference post within the same pay level if found medically fit, vacancies are available, and their merit permits.
A one-time medical appeal may be allowed under the prescribed conditions and applicable rules.
Candidates must satisfy the following medical standards during the Railway medical examination. The following table summarises the medical standards:

Candidates may be allowed to file a one-time medical appeal.
If found fit for a lower-preference post within the same pay level, they may be considered for that post based on merit and vacancy availability.
