CBSE New Update: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a fresh directive to all affiliated schools, instructing them to provide Class XI registration numbers to students applying for JEE Main 2026. The notice, dated 4 November 2025, comes after multiple complaints from parents and students who reported that several schools were not issuing the required details.
According to CBSE, the requirement for entering the Class XI registration number in the JEE Main application was clearly mentioned in the Board’s earlier circular dated 30 October 2025, released along with the Class X and XII Board Exam Date Sheet. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has made this field mandatory for candidates filling the JEE Main application form.
Despite the earlier instructions, the Board stated that many Class XII students preparing for the JEE 2026 exam are still unable to obtain their Class XI registration numbers from their respective schools. Taking note of the grievances, CBSE has expressed serious concern and emphasized that no school should withhold this information.
The Board has reiterated that all schools must provide the Class XI registration number to every eligible student to ensure a smooth and error-free JEE Main application process. CBSE has urged schools to comply immediately to prevent further inconvenience to students.
However, in its earlier notification, CBSE had already stated that the National Testing Agency (NTA) will require CBSE’s Class XI registration number for JEE Main Registration 2026. Applicants must now enter their Class XI CBSE registration number while filling the JEE Main form. This move aims to streamline verification and match student records seamlessly. It will also prevent any clash between CBSE Class XII board exams and JEE Main sessions. Students are advised to keep their academic information ready well before the registration window opens.
