Trillion

A Trillion is just a number with two different definitions.

  • 1 million million ie 1,000,000,000,000 or 10 12 is defined as short trillion. This is the meaning of trillions in both British and American English.
  • 10 18 or 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 is larger than a trillion on the short scale. A trillion on the long scale is a million times larger than a trillion on the short scale. This is the historic meaning of trillion in English and is currently used in various non-English speaking countries where trillion and billion retain their long definitions.

In the American system , 1 trillion equals one thousand thousand million, or 10 to the 12th. In contrast, in the British system, 1 trillion is equal to a million million million, or 10 to the 18th. Although the American system was common in the United States and Britain, American definitions are accepted today. However, historical and geographical differences must also be taken into account. This helped create "trillion" to develop a standardized terminology for representing large numbers in a more logical form than the American one.
