5. Hormones are secreted in other animals also to help in their growth and development. For example, metamorphosis in insects is controlled by insect hormones. In a frog, it is controlled by thyroxin, the hormone produced by thyroid. Thyroxin production requires the presence of iodine in water. If the water in which the tadpoles are growing does not contain sufficient iodine, the tadpoles cannot become adults.

10. The rate of growth in height varies in different individuals. Same may grow suddenly at puberty & then slow down, while others may grow gradually. Hence, initially girls grow faster than boys but at 18 years of age, both reach their maximum height.
